Chapter 52 Immediate Arrest!
“Director Zhao, my father came here to report a case this morning, but your station said you couldn’t handle it?”
Yang Dong sat in the chair, tilting his head as he questioned Zhao Fang.
Zhao Fang’s expression turned a little uneasy, and she immediately shot a glare at Qin Dapeng.
Qin Dapeng hurried forward, saying, “Comrade, here’s what happened, your father this morning—”
Yang Dong waved his hand to cut him off, refusing any explanations.
“My father was very clear. Your station brushed him off, told him there was nothing you could do, that those thugs couldn’t be caught, and my brother should just accept his bad luck—isn’t that right?”
“Seems you need someone to oversee you before you handle cases properly!”
At these words, Yang Dong snorted coldly and called toward the door, “Captain Yu, Captain Song, please come in!”
“Huh?”
Zhao Fang and several officers sharply turned their gaze toward the entrance of the office building.
Which Captain Yu? Which Captain Song?
Yu Baijiang and Song Yue entered one after the other, both wearing extremely grim expressions.
Neither had expected the conduct at Xia Shui Town Police Station to be so appalling—where was the dignity of a police station here? They even dared to strike people? Hit those who came to report cases?
“Brother Yang, leave this matter to us. We’ll handle it!” Yu Baijiang, his face dark as iron, spoke to Yang Dong, then glared at Zhao Fang and the other officers, barking, “What is your Xia Shui Town station doing? Huh? Is this how you handle cases?”
He wished he could crawl into a hole right then.
When they’d arrived earlier, it was Yu Baijiang himself who confidently told Yang Dong to go straight inside and find Director Tian Zhongmin—just mention his name, Yu Baijiang, and it would work wonders. He and Song Yue had decided not to enter themselves, not wanting to show their faces.
And then… things turned out like this.
Yang Dong hadn’t even managed to see Tian Zhongmin; instead, he was nearly beaten up by Qin Dapeng and had been mocked by several officers before that.
If Yang Dong hadn’t revealed his identity, he might have been assaulted already.
In fact, when Qin Dapeng had raised his fist, Yu Baijiang and Song Yue had wanted to rush in and intervene. But Lu Yike stopped them—this formidable lady told them to keep watching, to see firsthand how Xia Shui Town Police Station handled its cases.
Now they had seen it clearly—the officers here really did work this way!
“Captain Yu—you’re here?”
“Captain Song, you too?”
Zhao Fang’s mind went blank; she could hardly believe her eyes. The deputy captain of the County Public Security Bureau’s Criminal Investigation Unit, Yu Baijiang, was actually here. And also Song Yue, captain of Squad One.
Normally, the Criminal Investigation Unit didn’t have authority over local stations. Though they were all part of the police system, the relationship wasn’t direct. But Yu Baijiang was different—he also served as deputy leader of the County Public Security Bureau’s Police Conduct Inspection and Rectification Task Force.
The task force had a two-month mission, and it wasn’t yet concluded. Any issues discovered in this period could be handled—ranging from a verbal warning to immediate suspension and internal investigation.
“Ha, are you saying we shouldn’t be here?” Yu Baijiang sneered, glancing coldly at Zhao Fang and the other officers, his voice harsh as he continued, “Is this how you work? You even want to get physical with those who report cases?”
“You—come out!” he ordered, pointing at Qin Dapeng.
Qin Dapeng, pale-faced, walked up to Yu Baijiang, looking like a student caught misbehaving, head bowed, awaiting reprimand.
“What’s your name?” Yu Baijiang demanded, eyes fixed on him.
“Qin—Qin Dapeng!”
Qin Dapeng dared not refuse, answering obediently.
“So you’re the only one who knows how a policeman should act, Officer Qin? Perhaps you should teach me too? Is it right to curse and beat those who report cases? Assault innocent citizens and rough up the public?”
Qin Dapeng grew flustered; he’d been acting purely out of anger earlier, never considering the consequences.
“Captain Yu, I…”
He tried to explain, but Yu Baijiang cut him off with a cold snort, offering no chance.
“You what? What do you want to explain? Do you think Captain Song and I are blind?”
“Where’s Tian Zhongmin? How does he usually manage as director? How did he let you all turn out like this?”
“Tell him to come out!”
Yu Baijiang pulled a chair over and sat down, his fury undiminished.
He had no choice but to make a scene, to shout—because standing at the station entrance was Lu Yike, whose cold expression made his heart tremble.
The Municipal Discipline Inspection Commission oversaw all party members. As long as someone was a party member, they could be investigated, questioned, detained—regardless of the system.
Though the public security, procuratorate, courts, and justice departments had their own internal inspection units and discipline offices, that didn’t mean the Municipal Commission couldn’t intervene—they absolutely could.
Lu Yike was a member of the First Discipline Inspection Office of the Municipal Discipline Commission.
Yu Baijiang was quite wary of her.
He suspected that Yang Dong had brought Lu Yike along precisely to ensure he and Song Yue would do their utmost to help.
But he was mistaken—Yang Dong had neither the face nor the authority to have Lu Yike accompany him home for personal matters.
That was Secretary Wei Chonghu’s decision.
“Captain Yu, Director Tian went to the town government, should be back soon.”
“Should I call him? Would you like to wait a moment?” Zhao Fang ventured, asking Yu Baijiang.
He glanced at her and grunted through his nose.
Zhao Fang immediately took out her phone and stepped outside to make the call.
But as she went out, she was startled again—there was someone else outside, a young woman.
She was dressed in the official suit of the Municipal Discipline Commission, with a national emblem badge on her chest—the aura of discipline was unmistakable.
Zhao Fang took a careful look at Lu Yike’s features, and her face changed completely.
She recognized her…
This young woman was Lu Yike herself—the infamous “Iron Lady” of the Municipal Discipline Commission.
Anyone who crossed her, no matter how many connections they tried, would be dealt with strictly and by party discipline and law.
“Director Lu, is that you?” Zhao Fang asked, her voice trembling.
Lu Yike glanced at her, leaning against the car, then turned away, ignoring her.
Zhao Fang forced a smile, certain she was facing Lu Yike, but dared not show any displeasure.
She stepped farther away and dialed Director Tian Zhongmin.
“Hello, Director Tian, there’s been an incident at the station…”
“Here’s what happened…”
“Yes, come back quickly—Captain Yu and Captain Song are both here, and the Municipal Discipline Commission’s Lu Yike—the Iron Lady herself—is here!”
After the call, Zhao Fang glanced again at Lu Yike, but didn’t dare disturb the Iron Lady, slipping quietly back into the station’s hall.
“Captain Yu, Director Tian will be back shortly,” Zhao Fang reported carefully to Yu Baijiang.
Yu Baijiang had already moved to the wall of the hall, looking up at a banner hanging there. He ripped it down.
“Xia Shui Town Police Station—do you even deserve this banner? Best grassroots unit of the month? No more!”
“That one named Qin—Qin Dapeng, right?”
“Effective immediately—suspended on the spot for reflection!”
“Zhao Fang—one demerit!”
“I’ll report personally to the bureau chief!”
Yu Baijiang went all out, completely raking Xia Shui Town Police Station over the coals, leaving them no dignity at all.
Zhao Fang, the deputy director, didn’t dare utter a word, even as she was given a demerit—she could only endure it.
Internally, she deeply regretted it.
Had she known the injured high school senior had such a background, she would have pressed Qin Dapeng to handle it right away…
Just a few thugs—there were piles of cases against them at the station.
If they wanted to arrest them, they could, and give justice to the victim.
Even if those thugs invited them for meals and drinks every year, even brought “special gifts” during the holidays—
When it’s time to let go, you must let go!
It’s all to answer to the powers above.
“Old Ma, Old Zhou, what are you waiting for? Go arrest those thugs who assaulted people! Give Comrade Yang Dong an explanation!”
Zhao Fang wasn’t foolish—if they didn’t hurry now and those thugs managed to escape, it would be a nightmare.
“Right, right, Sister Zhao, we’re on it!” Ma An nodded hurriedly, immediately leading several officers out.
Police cars revved up, sirens blaring.
The sudden, vigorous action, compared to their earlier slack attitude, was almost laughable.
Yang Dong remained seated, sighing inwardly.
Such a drastic change in attitude—all because of the difference in the reporter’s identity.
Earlier, as an ordinary citizen, his report had been ignored, he was even nearly beaten.
But after he produced his Municipal Discipline Commission credentials and called in Yu Baijiang and Song Yue, their attitude transformed instantly.
It made Yang Dong understand even more the importance of power and status.
But he also knew that, for now, he was still just a small figure, borrowing the tiger’s might from the Discipline Commission and Yu Baijiang.
If he were truly a leader, he wouldn’t need to come to Xia Shui Town Police Station himself—a single phone call would set the whole town into a frenzy.
