Volume One, Chapter 27: It Really Is Possible
Su Tong’s adorable little face scrunched up, her brows knitting together in concern. After consulting the divinations once more, her tone grew grave. “This is troublesome. I foresaw several outcomes, and none of them are good.”
Xiao Shiwei’s voice trembled as she asked, “Is there any danger to my life?”
Su Tong glanced at her and shook her head. “No, there’s no threat to your life. But after this calamity, you will suffer deep wounds both in body and spirit. The days ahead will not be easy.”
Xiao Shiwei was stunned, a swirl of emotions flooding her heart.
Even Xiao Shiyu’s gentle eyes creased with worry as he looked at Su Tong. “Is there any way to resolve this?”
With a helpless sigh, Su Tong replied, “Not for now.” She had seen that on the night of September 1st, the day school started, Xiao Shiwei would be delivering something to a classmate who lived off-campus and, on her way, would be dragged into an alley by a group of men, assaulted, and filmed. Though those men would eventually receive their punishment, Xiao Shiwei would be so traumatized that she could never move on, ultimately falling into depression.
Su Tong had originally wanted to warn Xiao Shiwei not to go out that day. But another outcome showed that if she stayed instead, a fire would break out in the dormitory, leaving Xiao Shiwei severely burned. Although surgery would restore much of her appearance, she would still be tormented in body and mind, and ultimately still succumb to depression.
There were so many choices, yet no matter what path Xiao Shiwei took, she could not escape this calamity—the end was always the same: depression.
This was a destined trial, and if Su Tong intervened forcibly, she might not only fail to save Xiao Shiwei but also put herself at risk. After all, she had only just returned and her cultivation was still weak; she dared not attempt anything reckless.
During their time together, Xiao Shiyu had come to trust deeply in Su Tong’s abilities. If even she could do nothing, did that mean Shiwei was fated to suffer?
A tremor ran through his gentle voice as he asked, “Is there any way to minimize the harm?”
Su Tong pondered for a moment, then suddenly slapped her forehead as if recalling something. “How could I forget about you?” Her eyes shone as she looked at Xiao Shiyu. “You are cloaked in golden light of virtue and your fortune is stronger than most. If you stay by Shiwei’s side that day, and I give her a talisman to shift her luck, even if the calamity can’t be avoided, the harm will be reduced as much as possible.”
With her thoughts cleared, Su Tong found more possibilities. “And then there’s Ye Mo—he too is blessed with virtue. If he joins you, and I cast another spell, it might truly be possible for Shiwei to escape this fate.”
Xiao Shiwei grabbed Su Tong’s hand, tears shimmering in her eyes. “Really?”
Su Tong nodded firmly. “Truly, Shiwei, I will save you. Trust me.”
“I trust you,” Xiao Shiwei replied, clutching Su Tong’s hand as if holding her last lifeline.
Beside them, Xiao Shiyu let out a long breath. He had known Su Tong would find a way.
Su Tong patted Xiao Shiwei’s hand comfortingly. “Your trial falls on September 1st. Until then, just carry on as usual. Don’t let this weigh on your mind.”
Xiao Shiwei managed a weak smile. How could she act normal knowing such a calamity awaited her? Her heart was a tangle of sorrow and relief—grateful to have asked Su Tong to read her fortune and learned of the disaster in advance, giving her a chance to avoid it, yet also regretting it, for the knowledge left her anxious and uneasy.
Alas!
Su Tong turned to Xiao Shiyu, her tone serious. “I know your work keeps you busy, but on September 1st, you must make time to stay with Shiwei.”
Xiao Shiyu gave his solemn promise. “No matter how busy I am, nothing is more important than my sister. Don’t worry, I’ll stay by her side all day.”
“And Ye Mo as well,” Su Tong added.
“Leave Ye Mo to me. I’ll make sure he’s there too,” Xiao Shiyu replied without hesitation.
With everything arranged, Su Tong fixed Xiao Shiyu with her clear, black-and-white gaze. “Time to collect your merit. This case is particularly tricky—two points for the divination, and I’ll need to collect again when I cast the spell. The exact amount will depend on that day.”
Seeing Su Tong’s obsession with collecting merit, Xiao Shiyu couldn’t help but smile gently. “Take what you need—I trust you.”
Su Tong reached out and, with a gesture, actually collected two points of merit from around Xiao Shiyu. She exclaimed in delight, “Wonderful, it really works!”
Merit: -9963.5
Suppressing her worries, Xiao Shiwei gathered herself and looked at her brother with playful affection. “Brother, it seems I’m destined to rely on you for everything—your money, and now your merit too.”
Xiao Shiyu smiled warmly and patted her head affectionately. “Spend as much as you like. I’d be happy for you to rely on me your whole life.”
At his words, Xiao Shiwei finally broke into a smile, her worries greatly eased. With the powerful Su Tong and a loving brother by her side, what calamity couldn’t she face?
After seeing the siblings off, Su Tong sensed a merit point coming to her.
Merit: -9962.5
A quick calculation revealed it came from Gao Qianqian.
After hearing Su Tong’s advice, Gao Qianqian had left the livestream and found the red pouch her husband, Zheng Yang, had hidden. Receiving the package Su Tong sent, she quickly followed the instructions, wrapping the pouch in a dispelling talisman and burning it under the sun.
Once the red pouch was burned, Gao Qianqian felt as if a great weight had lifted from her body.
Not long after, Zheng Yang, embroiled in trouble with his mistress, came home demanding a divorce. He tried to hit Gao Qianqian, but tripped on the sofa and fell, striking the back of his head on the marble table and losing consciousness.
He was taken away by ambulance and remained in critical condition.
Su Tong had already foreseen that Zheng Yang would not die this time. Though he survived, he was left completely paralyzed, with his sense of pain still intact. After a month of agony, he suffocated and died.
Meanwhile, Gao Qianqian’s fortune returned to her, and she enjoyed wealth and peace for the rest of her life.
The kind-hearted were finally rewarded, and the wicked received their due punishment.
Standing before the floor-to-ceiling window, Su Tong gazed out over the beautiful scenery below, when suddenly a flash of red darted through the garden. Her curiosity piqued, she went downstairs.
The sprawling garden was in full bloom, a riot of colors, breathtakingly beautiful.
Su Tong’s eyes fixed on a spot and she called out, “Come out, I saw you.”
The leaves in the flower bed rustled, but nothing emerged.
After a moment’s thought, Su Tong raised her hand, gathering a wisp of spiritual energy at her fingertip.
Her tone gentle, as if coaxing a child, she called, “Do you want this? If you do, come out.”
The leaves rustled again.
Su Tong was in no hurry, silently counting in her heart, “One, two…”
Before she could say “three,” a fox darted out.
Its crimson fur gleamed like fire, smooth as silk. Its lively eyes gazed hungrily at the spiritual energy at Su Tong’s fingertip.
Su Tong’s eyes sparkled with delight as she exclaimed, “So it’s a fire fox that has cultivated for a hundred years! It seems you’ll soon face your heavenly tribulation.”
