84. A Lethal Intent Awakens
More than ten minutes later, a black Audi pulled up before the gates of Twin Heroes Manor. Several burly men in security uniforms strode over with utmost vigilance, their hands resting on their backs, ready to draw batons or other weapons at the slightest sign of trouble.
At the same time, in the security booths flanking the gate, more robust men watched the outside intently, prepared to rush out and assist at a moment’s notice.
Chen Fengyun nodded to himself in silence. It seemed Twin Heroes Manor was indeed heavily guarded. Even at a distance of three miles from the main house, so many sentries were posted, all equipped with devices on their shoulders resembling law enforcement recorders.
“We’re here to bring someone to see Lord Qin,” said Tan Ying, lowering the car window and nodding to the security outside.
“Ah, it’s Miss Tan—please, go ahead. Let them through,” the head of security recognized her at once, bowing obsequiously, then ordered the guards in the booth to open the automatic gates.
Beyond the gates stretched a broad avenue leading directly to the manor. Every so often along the roadside, a car was parked, and with a sweep of his spiritual sense, Chen Fengyun detected three strong men lying in wait inside each vehicle.
Not only that, but from the gate to the manor’s main entrance—a distance of roughly three miles—Chen Fengyun also discovered five patrol squads, each composed of three men. One in every group held the leash of a wolfdog or Tibetan mastiff.
Their car stopped in the plaza before the manor’s grand doors. At once, someone stepped forward to open the car door. Chen Fengyun alighted with Tan Ying, immediately noticing unfriendly glances from several strong men nearby.
“It truly is a fortress,” Chen Fengyun commented. “Even a special forces unit would have a hard time breaking in.” His spiritual sense had also detected that some of the men nearby carried pistols and other firearms.
Beneath the main building, his senses found an armory stocked with a vast array of guns and ammunition—even rocket launchers and grenades.
“What sort of man is this Qin Tianxiong to possess such an arsenal?” Chen Fengyun mused as he followed Tan Ying and Luo Fei, his spiritual sense steadily sweeping forward, gradually encompassing the entire ten-kilometer estate.
But Chen Fengyun’s expression grew grimmer, for several kilometers in the forest behind the manor, he discovered a cluster of villas. These villas, however, were merely for show—the real secrets lay underground.
Beneath those villas sprawled a subterranean base, occupying nearly a square kilometer—not an ordinary base, but a laboratory, where inhuman experiments on living subjects were underway.
Within several rooms of the laboratory, Chen Fengyun saw dozens of children locked away, ranging from toddlers to teenagers, along with some adult men and women—one even lay on an operating table, chest cavity laid open.
The majority of the experimenters were Japanese, with a handful of Westerners among them. Chen Fengyun’s fury blazed. He could not say for certain if Qin Tianxiong himself was a Japanese spy, but with such a base behind Twin Heroes Manor, it was impossible that Qin knew nothing.
“So there are indeed Japanese inside the manor. Qin Tianxiong’s collusion with them is beyond doubt—he deserves no less than death.”
Though Chen Fengyun had cultivated for many years, he had never felt such murderous intent before. His sudden anger was keenly felt by Tan Ying and Luo Fei, who sensed the temperature around them drop by more than ten degrees, sending a chill deep into their hearts.
“Luo Fei, tell me—have you ever abducted children?” Chen Fengyun suddenly stopped and asked him. His voice carried the energy of the Enlightenment Sutra, making it impossible for someone like Luo Fei to lie.
“My men have taken more than ten children over the past few years—mostly from train stations, sometimes from the streets,” Luo Fei confessed, to Tan Ying’s incredulous gaze, revealing everything without hesitation.
“What did you say? Abducting children?” Tan Ying asked in confusion.
“Miss Tan, have you ever killed for Qin Tianxiong? Do you know of his dealings with the Japanese?” Chen Fengyun turned to her, his invisible power instantly invading her mind, compelling her to answer truthfully.
“I know nothing of what you’re saying. I’ve only helped Qin Tianxiong fend off assassins and fought on his behalf in the ring. I’ve never been involved in his business dealings,” Tan Ying answered, then stared at Chen Fengyun in shock.
Her mind had been perfectly clear, yet she could not help but tell the truth. Hearing this, Chen Fengyun’s attitude toward her changed at once. “I suggest you leave the manor immediately. Who knows what will happen here soon. Since you are uninvolved, staying may cost you your life.”
Since Tan Ying truly had no part in Qin Tianxiong’s affairs and served only as his bodyguard, Chen Fengyun had no wish to harm the innocent and kindly urged her to flee.
“Who are you, really? What have you come to Twin Heroes Manor for?” Tan Ying took a step back and asked.
“You’ll know who I am—if you survive the night,” Chen Fengyun replied coldly, then gave Luo Fei a kick in the back, ordering him to lead the way to Qin Tianxiong.
Tan Ying drew a deep breath and followed. She sensed that something monumental was about to occur at Twin Heroes Manor tonight, yet she was unwilling to leave and wanted to see it for herself.
“Lord Qin says he doesn’t want to see the kid. Let me interrogate him,” a gruff voice called out before they reached the backyard. Several strong men blocked their way, one of them grinning at Tan Ying, his arms so long they nearly reached his knees.
“Zhang Heng, you’re mistaken. He’s not someone we brought back—he defeated me and forced us to bring him here,” Tan Ying shook her head, stepping aside as she spoke.
“Qin Tianxiong won’t see me?” Chen Fengyun asked the men coldly.
“Lord Qin says to let you bleed a little, then find your parents and have them pay a million to get you back. Though you might lose a few pieces before you go home,” Zhang Heng sneered, his thick arms like those of an ape, his face twisted in a cruel smile.
“In that case, I’ll make Qin Tianxiong come out to see me himself,” Chen Fengyun replied. In a flash, he kicked Luo Fei aside, breaking one of his legs, then lunged at Zhang Heng.
“This brat’s asking for death—take him down!” Zhang Heng stood his ground, but the men beside him surged forward to attack.
