Chapter 157: Repaying the Favor with Marriage (Part One - Subscription Requested)
After helping the Yamata no Orochi devour a group of Japanese martial artists, Chen Fengyun gave it another stern warning before quickly returning to China. Upon arriving home, he found both of his parents there, and the men sent by Feng Tianbao were still secretly guarding the apartment from downstairs.
"Dad, are you alright?" Chen Fengyun asked, though he trusted the defensive capability of his jade talisman.
"What could possibly happen to me? I'm completely fine. Son, what on earth is this jade talisman? Why does it glow? And why did that Japanese man attack me?" Chen Ji'an asked.
"Dad, let me upgrade this jade talisman for you. From now on, not even artillery fire will be able to pierce its protective shield. I killed a few Japanese martial artists; they came to seek revenge. But you don't need to worry, someone will be secretly protecting you," Chen Fengyun said without going into detail.
"Fengyun, you must be careful when you're out there," his mother said worriedly.
"Don't worry, your son is extremely powerful. Nowadays, aside from missiles and the like, probably no weapon can do anything to me." Chen Fengyun's artifact-refining techniques had grown even more advanced, and he quickly upgraded his parents' jade talismans to a level capable of resisting attacks from cultivators at the late Foundation Establishment stage.
"By the way, the person who helped me yesterday seems to be the famous Master Feng. Should we go thank him?" his father suddenly asked. Feng Tianbao was a well-known figure in Rongcheng, so many people recognized him.
"Dad, you don't need to worry about this. I'm very familiar with Feng Tianbao. The reason he was able to rush over and help you so quickly back then was because I had already arranged for people to keep watch and protect you from the shadows," Chen Fengyun smiled and said.
"Oh dear, we aren't anyone important; we don't need people watching over us in secret. It just feels rather uncomfortable thinking about it," both parents expressed their reluctance.
"They won't interfere with your lives; they'll just keep watch from a distance to prevent you from running into danger. If you really dislike it, I'll have Feng Tianbao withdraw them, and you can just pay more attention to strangers coming around in the future. But Mom, Dad, if you ever run into any trouble, you can just call Feng Tianbao directly." Feeling helpless, Chen Fengyun had to arrange it this way.
That very evening, the national evening news broadcasted that a Japanese shrine had been completely reduced to ashes by a massive fire. Furthermore, a giant snake had appeared, devouring people everywhere, plunging the Japanese populace into panic and causing numerous casualties.
"Mr. Chen, did you go to Japan?" Not long after, Feng Tianbao called to inquire about the situation.
"That's right. I killed two of their Supreme Martial Grandmasters and over a dozen Martial Grandmasters. By now, there probably aren't many grandmaster-level powerhouses left in the Japanese martial arts world," Chen Fengyun replied calmly.
"Then do you know about that giant snake on TV? It actually has multiple heads. Could it be some kind of monster?" Feng Tianbao asked next.
"That's the Yamata no Orochi, revered by the Japanese people as the Yamata no Ookami. It was hiding right beneath the shrine. I gave it a sound thrashing and made sure it wouldn't dare set foot in China, leaving it to torment the Japanese people instead," Chen Fengyun chuckled.
"Hahaha, the Japanese are in big trouble now." Feng Tianbao laughed as well. After exchanging a few casual remarks about Chen Fengyun's parents, Chen Fengyun took the opportunity to ask him to recall the men who had been secretly standing guard.
Later, Chen Fengyun contacted his team leader and learned that the group was still at Sanxingdui and wouldn't return to the campus until the following afternoon. The next day, after bidding farewell to his parents, Chen Fengyun headed to Sanxingdui to rejoin the group and returned to school with them.
"What's going on? I heard you disappeared at Sanxingdui?" As soon as he returned to campus, Ma Dingdang sought him out, dragging him to a bar off-campus to chat and question him.
"I discovered the entrance to a mystic realm, which is actually a blessed cave heaven. I estimate that an ancient cultivation sect resided there a long time ago. However, they encountered a bronze demon king from the endless abyss. Although the bronze demon king only had one arm, it managed to turn the entire cave heaven into bronze."
Chen Fengyun briefly recounted the battle inside the cave heaven against the bronze demon king's demonic arm and its lingering obsession. Ma Dingdang was filled with immense regret for missing out on such a fantastic opportunity.
"I also took a trip to Japan. Those damn Japanese bastards actually dared to attack my father." Chen Fengyun then brought up the events in Japan.
"No wonder such a sudden uproar happened in Japan; it turns out they provoked you. Serves them right. Daring to come all the way to China to attack your father—if you hadn't killed a few more of them, they wouldn't have learned to be afraid. With the commotion you've made this time, the Japanese martial arts world is probably completely finished," Ma Dingdang exclaimed with a sigh.
"By the way, the Yamata no Orochi also told me the hiding places of several ancient monsters. Are you interested in teaming up with me to deal with them? We might even be able to squeeze some secrets out of them," Chen Fengyun tempted Ma Dingdang. In truth, he wanted a companion since many of these old monsters were hiding overseas.
"Alright, of course I'm going! I've been looking for an opportunity like this everywhere and couldn't find one. When are we leaving?" Ma Dingdang agreed without a second thought, eager to go immediately.
"No need to rush. These old monsters have been hiding for a very long time, some even for centuries. They aren't going anywhere. I've only just returned to school, I can't just take another leave of absence. Besides, if we want to go abroad, we have to get passports first."
Chen Fengyun could technically sneak over there, but it would be far too shocking to the secular world, and he couldn't carry Ma Dingdang that far on a flying sword either. Therefore, using tourism as a cover and playing it by ear after arriving was a much better plan.
"How about this? We'll go out and pull off a job during the New Year's holiday. Our passports should be ready by then," Ma Dingdang decided instantly.
"No problem. Use this time to focus on your cultivation. By the way, see if this thing is of any use to you. It's the crystal from the head of that prehistoric giant crocodile in the Changbaishan Heavenly Lake." After thinking for a moment, Chen Fengyun handed Ma Dingdang the crystal he had previously tossed into the micro-realm.
In fact, he had wanted to give it to Ma Dingdang after their trip to the Death Valley, but had forgotten. Remembering it now as a way to help her boost her strength, he handed it over, leaving Ma Dingdang thrilled upon receiving it.
"I can sense that the residual spirit of the divine dragon is craving this crystal; it should be of immense use to me. Tell me, how should your big sis here reward you?" Ma Dingdang was overjoyed, then wrapped her arm around Chen Fengyun's shoulder and asked.
"How about offering yourself in marriage?" Chen Fengyun and Ma Dingdang were already very close, so he joked.
"That's definitely worth considering. As long as you dare to accept me, I dare to accompany you." Ma Dingdang's face flushed slightly, but she puffed out her chest and said with a resolute bite of her lip. In truth, she was quite attractive; it was simply her personality that made it impossible for her to settle for an ordinary guy, just as Chen Fengyun was unlikely to settle for an ordinary girl.
"Let's talk about it later," Chen Fengyun said, backing down when faced with such a bold declaration.
"Coward! One day, I'll make you crawl into my bed willingly," Ma Dingdang muttered under her breath as she watched Chen Fengyun flee in a fluster. Unbeknownst to her, Chen Fengyun heard every word clearly, almost crashing into the glass door on his way out.
