132. The Hidden Evil Beneath the Earth
"Stop showing off, you brat. Did your old man strike it rich recently? Where exactly is this new villa of yours?" Chen Fengyun asked with a smile.
"It’s at the Clear Water Villa estate in the south of the city. Damn it, I heard that this area used to be a burial ground. When they were building these houses, they kept digging up bones everywhere. Do you think I’ve been sleeping on top of ghosts this whole time?" Gao Xiaohua felt goosebumps rise on his skin as he spoke.
"I’ll come over and take a look. Meet me at the entrance of the residential complex in ten minutes." Chen Fengyun stood up immediately and walked out the door.
Although his home was over ten kilometers away from the Gao residence, he traveled at a speed that felt like a casual stroll, though to any bystander, he seemed perfectly ordinary—yet with every step, he moved dozens of meters forward.
"Whoa, that was fast. You weren't already hanging out in the neighborhood, were you?" Gao Xiaohua sounded skeptical.
"Stop talking nonsense. Get out there; I’m almost at the gate of Clear Water Villa." Chen Fengyun hung up, having already covered three kilometers from his house.
Gao Xiaohua panted as he ran from his home to the main gate. It had been five minutes, and despite the short distance, his forehead was slick with sweat—it was a sweltering day.
However, just as he finished a few sentences with the security guard and had barely caught his breath, he saw a figure approaching from the distance. In the blink of an eye, the person arrived at the gate. It was none other than Chen Fengyun.
"Crazy, why didn't you have your taxi drop you off right at the gate? Did the driver not know the way?" Gao Xiaohua naturally assumed Chen Fengyun had arrived by car.
"I got off at the corner back there, worried that they wouldn't let cars park at the entrance, so I just walked the rest of the way," Chen Fengyun said with a smile.
"Let’s go. My place is down the slope behind us." Gao Xiaohua led Chen Fengyun into the complex, explaining as they walked, "This land used to have a much larger hillside, and right behind it flows a tributary of the Rong River.
"They say this slope was a mass grave before liberation, and later it became a well-known burial ground for the area. Three years ago, when they developed this land, hundreds of graves had to be relocated.
"Not only that, but I heard that when they built this complex, they leveled the entire hillside by more than ten meters, uncovering layers upon layers of white bones. Who knows how many people were buried here?"
"I don't know what my dad was thinking, buying a villa out here. Do you feel anything, Crazy? I always feel like there’s a cold breeze blowing on my back even on the hottest days. It’s not right."
Chen Fengyun listened to Gao Xiaohua’s rambling without responding. From the moment he approached the complex, he had sensed a dense, oppressive yin energy hanging over it.
Even in the middle of the day, with the scorching sun beating down, the entire complex and the surrounding hills were shrouded in a thick layer of yin energy. No wonder Gao Xiaohua felt the way he did.
Chen Fengyun immediately expanded his divine sense, scanning deep beneath the ground. The result shocked him: thirty meters down lay a massive ancient tomb.
The tomb appeared to be that of a monarch, with complex, interconnected passages forming a subterranean palace. The source of the dense yin energy emanated from the very center of this tomb.
"It seems there is an 'Extreme Yin' point beneath us, and a monarch from some dynasty was buried exactly here. Long-term nourishment from this point has birthed a malevolent yin entity.
"Because this place has been a mass grave for generations and later became the primary burial ground for locals, it provided an abundance of spiritual material for the entity, allowing it to grow and strengthen. It’s almost developed a rudimentary consciousness."
Chen Fengyun quickly assessed the situation, but dealing with the entity posed a dilemma: if he delved underground to slay it, the resulting struggle might trigger an earthquake in the area.
"Regardless, I cannot let this entity continue to grow, or the consequences will be endless." Chen Fengyun finally decided to eradicate it.
The primary reason was that Chen Fengyun believed the 'Extreme Yin' point housing the entity could provide energy for his cultivation system to absorb—and what he needed most right now were attribute points.
He was currently out of attribute points. Although he had a few spirit stones and pills that could be converted, he preferred to keep those in reserve for now.
"I actually think your place is quite cool. I think it’s just in your head; because you know this used to be a graveyard, your subconscious is projecting the idea of ghosts. In reality, you should believe in science. Where would you find ghosts these days?"
Despite knowing the truth, Chen Fengyun didn't tell Gao Xiaohua. Instead, he smiled and tried to dismiss his friend's strange notions, while subtly adjusting the placement of some plants and furniture to improve the feng shui of the home.
"Hearing you say that, I actually feel a bit better. I guess it really is all in my head. I have noticed that the living room feels like it has the air conditioning on—it’s exceptionally cool." Gao Xiaohua paused, then nodded in agreement.
After chatting with his best friend for a while, Chen Fengyun left Clear Water Villa. However, he didn't head home. Instead, he turned toward the back hill, found an empty patch of woods, summoned his flying sword to carve a passage, and descended underground.
He moved directly toward the location of the malevolent entity. Soon, he reached the tomb. It was the grave of an ordinary monarch, lacking any protective arrays, and parts of it had already collapsed.
Once inside, the cold, chilling air became increasingly intense, and the temperature dropped below freezing. If not for his Indestructible Vajra Body and the protection of his spiritual energy shield, even his physical constitution would have been shivering.
"Truly an 'Extreme Yin' point. There is an underground yin vein here, and all the yin energy for a hundred miles around has converged upon this spot. No wonder it could nurture a malevolent entity.
"Fortunately, it hasn't fully awakened its intelligence. Otherwise, its strength would be on par with a Foundation Establishment cultivator. Once it leaves this point and reaches the surface, it will surely cause a bloodbath that no one could stop."
Chen Fengyun felt fortunate to have discovered it early. He might even harvest a significant amount of attribute points. He hovered his flying sword above his head, gripped the Profound Yin Mirror in one hand and the True Word Bead in the other, and set up a containment array to prevent the entity from escaping if it proved difficult to defeat. Only then did he approach the place where the entity slumbered.
"Howl..."
As Chen Fengyun drew within ten meters, he startled the sleeping entity. It began to stir, letting out a low, guttural roar as the surrounding yin energy surged like clouds, swirling toward him.
