121. Interdimensional Teleportation Array
"Kid, who exactly are you?" Gregory of the Angel Mercenaries darkened, his voice laced with venom. He had expected an easy victory over the young man standing before him, but to his shock, he had found himself on the defensive after only a few exchanges.
"What a fool," came the mocking laughter of Ma Dingdang from the sidelines. "You didn't even bother to check who you were dealing with before trying to rob them. You truly have a death wish."
Chen Fengyun ignored the mercenary, but Gregory, his face flushing with a mix of embarrassment and caution, stared intently at the young man. Realizing just how young his opponent truly was, he tried a different approach. "Sir, I never imagined someone so young could reach the level of a Martial Arts Master. Do you have a mentor? Perhaps I am acquainted with them. Today was a rash mistake on my part; why don't we just call it quits here?"
"Heh, you’re dreaming," Chen Fengyun replied with a cold, sharp smile. The mercenary wanted to walk away, but Chen had no intention of letting him off so easily.
"Hmph! Don't get cocky just because you’ve attained the rank of Master, kid. I've killed plenty of your kind. If you’re so eager to die, I’ll be happy to oblige."
Gregory was furious. He had only suggested a truce to avoid wasting his strength; his goal was to hunt for treasure within the underground palace. A prolonged battle would only risk benefiting the woman watching from the shadows. However, if his opponent refused to back down, the veteran mercenary—whose reputation for ruthlessness was known across the globe—would not hesitate to show his true colors.
"I have killed Masters before as well," Chen Fengyun said with a dismissive chuckle. "It seems today will be another day for a massacre." He stepped forward, his body shrouded in the Golden Bell Shield, a flying sword circling around him like a silver serpent.
"Saint’s Blade!"
Gregory let out a thunderous roar. The mechanical wings on his back flared, granting him incredible speed as he blurred through the air, leaving afterimages in his wake. A blade formed of pure, holy light coalesced in his hand, and he slashed downward at Chen Fengyun.
*BOOM!*
With a flick of Chen Fengyun’s wrist, his flying sword streaked forward like a bolt of lightning, colliding with the blade of holy light. The impact erupted in a deafening roar, sending a shockwave of energy rippling through the chamber.
Ma Dingdang watched from a safe distance, her eyes gleaming with curiosity. She was desperate to gauge the true extent of Chen Fengyun’s power.
*How is this kid so strong?* Gregory thought, a jolt of panic striking him. *I can't afford a war of attrition. I have to use a lethal technique and take him by surprise, or that Chinese woman might interfere.*
"If this is the extent of your strength, then the world’s power levels have truly withered," Chen Fengyun remarked, shaking his head. "Compared to the era when cultivators roamed the earth, this is nothing."
"Angel’s Judgment!"
Gregory roared. The wings on his back suddenly manifested into two ethereal angels, each brandishing a blade of light, crossing their weapons to strike at Chen Fengyun from both sides. This technique was nearly at the level of a peak Martial Arts Master, and it was Gregory's ultimate trump card. Having poured almost every ounce of his energy into the strike, he waited with bated breath for the outcome.
"How cunning," Ma Dingdang muttered, shaking her head. "He’s using his ultimate move right at the start. He clearly has no intention of a long fight." She knew, however, that the attack was doomed to fail. After all, the man he was facing was none other than the legendary Mr. Chen of Rongcheng.
"Seal of the Mountain-Shaking King."
Chen Fengyun spoke softly. His hands moved in a blur, weaving intricate seals that coalesced into the phantom image of a majestic, towering mountain. He thrust it forward, slamming into the two angelic manifestations.
*BOOM!*
*BOOM!*
Two earth-shattering explosions echoed through the hall. Not only was the Angel’s Judgment completely nullified, but the residual force of Chen’s counterattack surged toward the mercenary.
"He's too strong! I have to run!" Gregory turned to flee, but no matter how fast he moved, he was no match for the speed of a flying sword.
*SWISH.*
To Ma Dingdang’s eyes, a streak of light flashed, accompanied by a sound like thunder and wind. Then, silence. Gregory’s running body suddenly stiffened, his head tumbling from his shoulders as a fountain of blood sprayed into the air. His headless torso continued to sprint for another ten meters before crashing to the ground.
Chen Fengyun dispatched the mercenary with effortless grace. With a wave of his hand, his flying sword retrieved the items from the corpse. There was nothing of value—just three or four broken relics scavenged from the ruins.
"What a pauper," Chen muttered. He did, however, find several thousand dollars in cash and a few bank cards. Lacking any pretense of a noble master, he pocketed the cash and destroyed the cards, knowing they would be useless without the PINs.
"As expected of Mr. Chen, to kill him so easily," Ma Dingdang said, clapping her hands as she approached.
"He was just too weak," Chen replied with a casual shrug. "You could have done the same."
"Chen Fengyun, come look at this. They left some writing here," Ma Dingdang called out, gesturing to the far wall.
Chen walked over to find ancient inscriptions carved into the stone. Though archaic, they were still legible.
*The heavens and earth have shifted. Spiritual energy wanes, and this realm has become a cage. The great sects of the cultivation world have united to construct ten inter-dimensional arrays, attempting to transport their elites to other worlds.*
*Alas, our sect’s portal was compromised, leading to the Demon Realm and inviting an invasion of otherworldly demons. With most of the cultivation world's elites gone, those who remained fought the demons to the death, finally destroying the array and eradicating the majority of the fiends.*
Ma Dingdang looked puzzled; she knew of legends regarding ancient masters, but little of the truth behind the cultivation world. Chen Fengyun, however, stood in silence. The earth had long since fallen into decay, becoming nothing more than a graveyard for cultivators.
"So, this array is a portal to other realms," Chen whispered, a spark of light returning to his eyes. He had finally found his path forward.
