167 The Purpose of Approaching
As soon as Mu Qingcheng stepped out, Chu Bai hurried over to meet her and stepped down from the car.
The two shared a warm, affectionate embrace, and as they looked at each other, their eyes still burned with the mutual respect of heroes recognizing kindred spirits.
Mu Qingcheng wore black-rimmed glasses, her long hair draped over her shoulders, entirely bare-faced without a trace of makeup.
Chu Bai was dressed in a white knitted, modernized cheongsam, her hair swept to one side, and her red lips remained dazzling.
Even so, standing side by side, the two women possessed equally commanding auras.
Mu Qingcheng naturally radiated a deep-rooted, untouchable elegance and poise that ordinary people could never hope to rival.
Chu Bai had always possessed a discerning eye for talent, and naturally, she understood the situation well.
Though this girl was younger than her, she held no small amount of respect for her in her heart.
Tilting her head slightly, Chu Bai looked at her with a gentle, beaming smile.
After a long moment, she finally spoke in a leisurely tone,
"Miss Mu, you've lost weight."
"Mm."
Mu Qingcheng nodded, offering no further explanation, leaving her statement hanging ambiguously.
Refusing to beat around the bush, Chu Bai went straight to the point,
"About 'that matter'... I've already heard."
"Who told you?"
The woman before her was far too direct, which pleased Mu Qingcheng, yet compelled her to exercise even greater caution.
Though her voice was soft, her gaze was sharp and penetrating.
Chu Bai had seen that kind of vigilant, murderous gaze hidden beneath the surface once before.
She likely already had some understanding of Mu Qingcheng's true identity.
Knowing she was no match for her, Chu Bai answered honestly,
"It wasn't Mr. Si. In fact, apart from what happened last time, I haven't seen him at all."
"And?"
Mu Qingcheng wore an inscrutable expression, equally capable of sudden anger or sudden amusement. Her reactions seemed to shift entirely in response to whatever move the other person made.
Chu Bai reached out again, affectionately slipping her arm through Mu Qingcheng's, and whispered,
"Let's talk inside the car, shall we?"
"Alright."
Mu Qingcheng nodded, letting this woman lead her toward the back seat.
Afterward, Chu Bai herself climbed into the car as well.
With an air of casual curiosity, Mu Qingcheng swept her gaze across the exquisite interior craftsmanship of the vehicle before speaking up even as Chu Bai was about to open her mouth,
"Is this car bulletproof?"
"Yes, exactly."
Chu Bai answered readily, without a moment's hesitation or surprise.
Mu Qingcheng cast a glance at her, the corners of her lips curving into a smile as she continued,
"Then, Sister Chu Bai, what is it exactly that you wanted to tell me?"
"Well, about what happened at the hotel last time, I actually haven't finished filling you in..."
It turned out that besides that handful of information, Chu Bai actually had a crucial witness in her grasp.
"You mean someone saw me enter that room?"
At that moment, Mu Qingcheng's brows drew slightly together as she closely watched the expression on Chu Bai's face, missing not a single trace of any clue.
Mu Qingcheng knew that Chu Bai seemed well-informed about the events of that day, but she was unsure how much Chu Bai actually knew about her...
Or what her true motives were for getting so close to her.
"A cleaning lady saw it. But that's not the most crucial part."
Taking a deep breath, Chu Bai's expression suddenly turned somewhat hesitant.
Mu Qingcheng glanced sideways at her, clearly catching a flicker of regret and apprehension deep within the other woman's eyes.
After falling silent for a few seconds, letting the previously relaxed atmosphere grow tense and heavy, Chu Bai continued,
"I had originally agreed with your Young Master Si that I wouldn't mention this to you.
Yet, as a woman myself, I felt that if I didn't tell you, you would certainly regret it."
With that, Chu Bai fumbled underneath the driver's seat for a moment before pulling out a black cloth bundle and handing it directly to Mu Qingcheng.
"This was recovered from that cleaning lady. By the time I discovered her, she had already committed suicide by swallowing poison.
Right now... this is all that is left."
Mu Qingcheng took it and slowly unwrapped the cloth.
Lying within it was a particularly familiar, yet spine-chilling... throwing dart!
