Mu Qingcheng had not yet realized what was happening.
But when she saw that Si Qingchen was already preparing to put on his shoes and get out of bed, she hurriedly leaped onto the bed without a second thought.
The man seized her by the arm and pulled her down to sit beside him. Then, as if in passing, he picked up the quilt and covered her exposed legs.
“What are you doing...?”
Mu Qingcheng looked at Si Qingchen with some resistance.
The man frowned and rebuked her coldly.
“Who are you trying to show them to? Sit still.”
“...Oh...”
His sharp tone left Mu Qingcheng momentarily dazed.
But remembering that he was still injured, she did not dare struggle again. She could only sit obediently, without moving an inch.
Thus, when Si Bei entered with the family doctor, he was met with an utterly unbelievable sight.
At that moment, on the large bed covered with black sheets, a young woman in a black shirt sat beside the stern-faced man whose body was wrapped in bandages.
A black brocade quilt covered her from the waist down, bunched up in a mass of wrinkles around her.
Her hair was slightly disheveled, and an unnatural flush colored her cheeks.
Her hands were clasped awkwardly in her lap. She glanced at the man beside her, then at the group of people standing awkwardly nearby, her expression full of words left unspoken.
After a long moment, beneath the barely restrained yet unmistakable astonishment on everyone’s faces, Mu Qingcheng finally reached out and poked Si Qingchen’s arm.
The man turned his head. Seeing the little one lean toward him, she whispered,
“Isn’t this... a little inappropriate?”

The man lowered his brows, concealing the flicker in his eyes. After a brief moment of thought, he looked up and asked,
“Are you embarrassed?”
“...A little.”
“Then be good and do as I say. I’ll have them leave quickly, all right?”
“Mm, okay.”
Mu Qingcheng nodded like a pecking chick.
Her astonishingly obedient appearance made the man yearn to cradle her in the palm of his hand and cherish her.
Better yet, he wanted to hide her away forever, where no one else could see her.
Suppressing a smile, Si Qingchen lifted his hand and gently smoothed back the strands of hair that had fallen against Mu Qingcheng’s cheek. In a low, coaxing voice, he said,
“Then answer me first. When we’re alone, what should you call me?”
“Brother Chen... I know.”
“Then you must call me that from now on. Will you remember?”
“Mm, I will.”
“Good girl.”
Mu Qingcheng nodded obediently, causing the man’s usually stern features to soften even further.
It was for the sake of seeing this innocent, harmless expression on her face that he had gone to such lengths, doing everything he could to remove every obstacle and shield her from every hurt.
To Si Qingchen, twenty-year-old Mu Qingcheng was far too precious. She could only—and must—be loved without end.
...
A moment later, Si Qingchen tenderly rubbed the crown of her head, then pushed himself up with both arms and walked over to sit on a nearby sofa.
Si Bei immediately led the others over and, with practiced discretion, turned his back to Mu Qingcheng before beginning to examine the wounds on the man’s back.

Fortunately, the injury was only partly torn open by his overly strenuous movements.
Once the medicine had been changed and the bandages replaced, there was no further cause for concern.
Si Qingchen returned to the bed and sat down again.
Si Bei lowered his head and held out a tube of ointment.
“Miss Mu, if the boss’s wound begins bleeding again, please apply this medicine for him.”
“All right. I understand.”
“Thank you.”
Si Bei bowed respectfully and turned to leave.
Just as he was about to step out, Mu Qingcheng suddenly remembered something and called after him.
“Wait.”
“What are your instructions?”
Si Bei stopped and turned around, still keeping his head lowered.
Mu Qingcheng knew what he was trying to avoid. She cleared her throat and spoke somewhat awkwardly.
“Could you please bring up a small bag from my car?”
“Of course. I’ll take care of it immediately.”
With that, Si Bei turned around and hurried out of the room.
As he left, he closed the door behind him.
