Chapter 21: Legendary Skills
Seeing that Gongsun Wuyue had no intention of responding, Wang Zihao turned his head again.
“Brother Song, want to join in?”
“Half an hour isn’t long, but it’s still hard to wait. How about a game of cards?”
Song Qi shook his head, declining the offer.
“No, I want to test my skills.”
“All right, all right, you’re both busy, I’ll play by myself then.”
With a disgruntled huff, Wang Zihao retreated into a corner and started playing solitaire.
Song Qi ignored him, instead opening his inventory and consecutively tapping on the Triple Experience Card and the “Soul Link” skill book.
[Ding! Triple Experience Card successfully used!]
[You now gain experience at 300%! Duration: two hours.]
[Triple Experience Card: 02:00:00]
[Skill book used successfully. You have learned “Soul Link.” Current skill level: LV0.]
A wave of dizziness swept over him, and the method for using the skill naturally appeared in Song Qi’s mind.
He opened his panel.
[Soul Link: The summoner may designate one summoned creature and share all its attributes and skills. Duration: ten minutes. Cooldown: twenty-four hours.]
“Select target: Lü Bu.”
[Binding in progress...]
[Binding successful!]
“Activate!”
In the next instant, an inexplicable surge of overwhelming power erupted within Song Qi!
The sudden increase in strength left him momentarily unable to control it. As he took his first step—
Bang!
The hard asphalt shattered beneath his foot, and he nearly stumbled over.
Song Qi felt a bit embarrassed.
He had thought that once activated, he would be able to unleash carnage at will, but he hadn’t expected to almost trip just by walking.
“My strength just leaped from single digits to over four hundred! No wonder it’s hard to control.”
“I’ll need to get used to this the first time I use it.”
The loud crash made Wang Zihao and Gongsun Wuyue both turn their heads at once.
“Brother Song, what’s going on...?”
“Testing out a skill, like I just said.”
Song Qi answered as he tried to walk as lightly as possible. The abrupt surge of power was still unfamiliar, but thankfully, Lü Bu’s control came with it, so at least he could adjust his movements.
“Testing a skill?”
Gongsun Wuyue came closer for a look, curiosity gleaming in her eyes.
“Do summoners have skills that enhance their own power?”
By all rights, a summoner’s skills were usually tied to their creatures—typically support abilities like “Inspire” or “Whip.” But she kept silent, merely watching alongside Wang Zihao. After all, he was an S-rank prodigy; a little uniqueness was only to be expected.
Crack!
Song Qi took a step, and this time he landed solidly on the road. Though there was still a crisp sound, the asphalt no longer cracked beneath him.
He continued moving his feet...
“Yes, this level of force works—I can walk normally now.”
Song Qi nodded to himself, sensing that he was almost accustomed to it.
“Next...”
He quickened his pace, starting from a slow walk and gradually speeding up.
And then—
Boom!!!
Song Qi shot forward like an arrow released from the bowstring!
He casually yanked a roadside power pole from the ground, twisted it into a spiral, and charged straight into the horde of zombies on the other side!
He was done familiarizing himself—now it was time for real combat!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
One after another, zombie bodies burst apart under his blows.
“Ha ha ha! Exhilarating! Absolutely exhilarating!”
Song Qi threw back his head and roared in delight!
Watching others fight monsters was nothing compared to experiencing it firsthand!
On the street, Lü Bu had already cleared half of the left side.
On the right, Song Qi was a bit slower, but the spectacle was even more shocking.
Countless zombies were smashed to pulp by sheer brute force!
Thick, black blood spattered like torrential rain, soaking the ground.
Before long, Song Qi’s figure grew more distant, eventually hidden by the walls lining the street. Only the occasional geyser of blood and the dull thud of heavy blows hitting the ground bore witness to his presence.
For a while, the sound of experience points accumulating became even more rapid and intense, as if a violent rainstorm was drumming on the earth.
Wang Zihao stared in utter shock from his corner, his mouth hanging open.
He didn’t even notice the cards slipping from his hand.
“Wait, is Brother Song really a summoner, or a berserker?”
“That’s his new skill? It doesn’t look anything like the summoner skills I know.”
“I’m getting more and more confused.”
Wang Zihao clutched his head, feeling as if his entire worldview had been upended.
Summoners, according to their textbooks, were mages who controlled monsters or beings from other worlds. Their power came from their summons, while their own bodies were frail and weak.
But now...
“So much for the frail summoner…”
“Would you call someone who, before even reaching level ten, can shatter asphalt with a single step and slaughter an entire horde by himself, ‘frail’?”
Wang Zihao thought for a moment and turned to Gongsun Wuyue.
“Gongsun Wuyue, aren’t you always top of the class in theory? Analyze this for me.”
Gongsun Wuyue couldn’t help but roll her eyes at him.
She too had been stunned when she saw Song Qi rampage through the zombies.
She had been surprised by the strength of Song Qi’s summoned creature, but that was still within reason. After all, he was a summoner—an S-rank summoner, the kind never before seen in human history! A powerful summon made sense.
But—
“Why is his own body so strong?!”
Gongsun Wuyue couldn’t help but complain inwardly.
If a summoner could not only summon mighty creatures but also become powerful themselves by other means... wasn’t that a bit unfair?
If that were truly the case, how could summoners ever be considered a “chicken-rib” profession? They’d have been the most popular class ages ago!
Unless...
A sudden thought struck Gongsun Wuyue.
“Wait, there is a skill that allows a summoner to gain tremendous combat strength for a short time!”
“I remember reading in a biography of a human hero—there was once a summoner who acquired this skill. It was called... Soul Link.”
“Soul Link?”
Wang Zihao pretended to think it over, but quickly gave up. He’d never paid attention in class, let alone learned anything not in the textbooks. He’d never even heard of this skill.
“So this is Brother Song’s new skill? What does it do?”
Wang Zihao asked.
“I remember its effect—it allows a summoner to have the same attributes and skills as their summoned creature. Of course, only temporarily, and with a long cooldown.”
“The summoner and their summon share the same attributes and skills?”
Wang Zihao was dumbfounded.
Summoners had two main weaknesses: the quality of their summons was unpredictable, and their own bodies were extremely fragile—making them easy targets in battle.
But Soul Link solved the second problem outright!
“Even if it’s only temporary, that’s incredibly powerful!”
“If this skill could be made widespread, just this one would be enough for summoners to rise up!”
Gongsun Wuyue shook her head regretfully.
“Unfortunately, this skill can’t be popularized for now, because its rarity is... Legendary!”
