Sang Wan was awakened by a kiss in the middle of the night. The mattress sank beneath her, and before she could even react, Lou Ye’s lips had found her back. “A-Ye…” Sang Wan murmured, drowsily turning around. Her soft curves fit perfectly into Lou Ye’s palm. Everything unfolded naturally, as if she were drifting on a lake shimmering with golden ripples, sinking into a deep sleep.

When she woke again, the moment she opened her eyes, the alarm clock chimed. Remembering what had happened the night before, warmth flushed Sang Wan’s cheeks. She turned over and met Lou Ye’s unusually alert gaze. Lou Ye leaned in, his voice tinged with accusation, “Sang Wan, I feel like you don’t like me at all!”

??? Sang Wan was confused. She tried to pull away, but it was too late. Firmly held in his embrace, she spoke again, her voice so soft she barely recognized it herself, “But I told you I like you!”

“Then why aren’t you even a little jealous?” Lou Ye countered.

!!! Sang Wan was taken aback. Lou Ye pressed his complaint strongly, “Didn’t I tell you last night that I was drinking outside? And you? All night, did you care about me even once? Did you ever think, what if I got drunk and someone took advantage of me?”

Sang Wan: ……

Before dinner, Lu Xiaomu had already been picked up by Lu Jinian. But Sang Wan could tell exactly what Lu Jinian’s intentions were in coming at that time. She firmly refused his dinner invitation without a shred of softness.

She texted Lou Ye; he said he was having a small gathering with friends but he was on his way. Even before going to bed, despite knowing it might be misunderstood, she still asked what time he would be back. Lou Ye didn’t reply.

Clearly, it was him ignoring her. How could he turn it around and blame her?

Sang Wan lifted her foot to kick him. Lou Ye ruthlessly subdued her, “Your girlfriend keeps calling me nonstop. ‘Where are you? Who are you with? When will you be back? Send me your location!’” His tone was fierce but his imitation was uncanny.

Lou Ye lowered his head, biting into Sang Wan’s chest, “And you? Just one sentence: ‘Should I come back to sleep?’ What if I don’t come back? What if I get schemed against by another woman? Wouldn’t that be exactly what you wanted?”

His words stirred her soul nearly out of her body. Thinking of the possibility he mentioned, Sang Wan forced herself to clear her mind and looked up to kiss him, “You won’t!”

Lou Ye paused.

Sang Wan kissed him softly, “If you could be schemed against, you wouldn’t be Lou Shao! Besides, I trust you. If you wanted to stray, you would have already!”

Before her stood Sang Wan, soft and beguiling like a fox spirit. In his mind, Lou Ye recalled Jiang Huai’s skeptical expression last night, “Bro, are you sure you’ve already entered the evaluation period with your sister-in-law? I don’t see her nervous about you at all.”

They had played cards all night. Other people’s phones kept buzzing with girlfriends or mistresses, jealous of each other despite barely knowing of each other’s existence, as if they were pulling each other’s hair in a fight.

But Lou Ye was different.

He came in and said his family had strict rules—no drinking tonight. Yet, his phone was silent all night. Returning home, he found Sang Wan embracing 2S, peacefully sleeping with her cat, immersed in tranquil years.

Lou Ye grew angry recalling the scene from last night. Yet now, Sang Wan kissed him softly and said she trusted him. Even knowing she was backtracking with a made-up excuse afterward, he couldn’t resist.

He had thought about how he would come back angry, scold her from a moral high ground, then manipulate her to care more about him. But her three light words turned the tables on him!

Get angry again? He had missed the best moment!

Should he just let it go? Yet he felt reluctant.

Lou Ye was fuming when suddenly he remembered something important.

“Sang Wan…” he said as he kissed her deeply. His palm pressed firmly, “Have you forgotten how many debts you owe me?”

“But—”

“No buts!”

“I repaid last night—”

“Are you sure? How many times?”

“…”

Could she even say that? She wanted to argue but had no voice.

In endless surrender, Sang Wan’s last thread of reason whispered, “Lou… Lou Ye, the alarm… it’s… ringing…”

The alarm sounded one last time.

Sang Wan sat in Lou Ye’s arms. At the horizon, the morning sun leapt over the skyline. In her mind, bursts of golden light flickered, dazzling and endless.

Before clocking in at the office before nine, Sang Wan’s face was calm but inside she was a bundle of nerves.

Luckily, it was Monday morning and everyone was equally drained.

One iced Americano later, everyone perked up, focusing solely on the unending work on their computers, too busy to notice anything else.

In the large conference room on Friday, applause broke out repeatedly.

Six redesigned projects faintly bore traces of Sang Wan’s original concepts from last Friday’s designs, but the rethought and redeployed designs were more brilliant, with richer details.

Not only Cheng Jingran, but even the usually reserved Lou Ye showed appreciative smiles and clapped several times.

Sang Wan hadn’t participated in the second design round of these projects, yet everyone seemed to tacitly include her name among the creators on each group’s new design drawings.

The heads of risk control and finance departments were also present.

The meeting stretched from morning till afternoon, with lunch taken in the conference room.

By four o’clock, the meeting ended, work hadn’t started yet, but everyone was exhilarated, as if the six projects were already safely in the hands of the Lou Corporation.

“Sister Sang, if the architecture competition next month ends and this project hasn’t started, can you join our team?”

“Hey, Sister Sang belongs to our department! Poaching her right in front of us? That’s too much! Manager Lin is still here!”

“So what if it’s your department? It’s Lou Corporation’s project, right? Director Cheng and the big boss are here too. Are you guys trying to split up the company?”

“…”

The group laughed and joked as they left, the atmosphere warm and lively.

Sang Wan instinctively glanced up, catching Lou Ye’s faint smile at the corner of his lips. She quickly averted her gaze and returned her attention to the large screen showing the upcoming architecture competition next month.

After the second meeting, as they walked back to the conference room, the sky outside was painted with rosy clouds.

“Xiao Sang, are you free? Let’s have dinner together.”

“Yeah, Sister Sang, we didn’t finish discussing those details at the meeting. Let’s refine them over dinner so we can clear our minds by the weekend…”

Several senior architects eagerly invited her.

Sang Wan smiled and nodded, following them downstairs to the restaurant. She didn’t forget to text Lou Ye, [You go home first, I might be a bit late!]

Before Lou Ye could send a resentful reply, Sang Wan’s new message arrived.

Though separated by dozens of floors between the restaurant and the underground garage, she seemed to sense his reaction at that moment.

[Lou Shao won’t be angry, right? After all, I’m shining and working so hard for Lou Corporation!]

What could he do?

Who could resist loving the way she shone brilliantly in her profession?

[Alright. Let me know when you’re done; I’ll come pick you up.]

He sent the message and started the car, driving out of Lou Corporation.

Sang Wan finished work close to nine.

Opening her phone, she found two messages.

At seven, from Lu Jinian: [Wanwan, our son said he wants to spend the weekend with you. Can I bring him over now?]

At seven-thirty, from Lou Ye: [The doorbell rang. Can I open the door?]

For a moment, she didn’t know whom to call first.

In the dark night, Sang Wan’s hurried footsteps echoed with endless anxiety.

The elevator stopped on the nineteenth floor. She reached her door, her scalp tingling.

Buzz!

The door opened from inside.
