Chapter Ten: Bizarre—Where’s My Door???
The moment those words were spoken, a chill immediately ran through Bai Wan and Liu Tong, yet neither of them said a word.
“Really? Thank you so much, Brother Zhang!” Lin Xi was visibly excited. Sleeping alone had been terrifying; having someone with her would make things much safer.
Bai Wan suddenly said half-jokingly, “Tsk. Teacher Zhang is a teacher, after all, and his reputation matters. A single man and a single woman staying in the same room—be careful not to ruin the teacher’s good name.”
“That’s none of your business. What we do has nothing to do with you.” Lin Xi snorted coldly and walked straight over to Zhang Wen, adopting a coy, dependent posture.
Seeing this, Bai Wan said nothing more.
He had no feelings for Lin Xi. To him, she was merely a stranger.
Being kind enough to offer her a word of warning was already enough for him to answer to his conscience.
After all, risking one’s own life to help a stranger was something only an innocent protagonist from an anime would do.
Bai Wan clearly was not that sort of person.
Soon afterward, everyone began returning to their rooms one by one. Bai Wan brought up the rear and casually took out the disposable stickers he had found in the library during the day. He carefully placed one on each person’s door. Only after he had finished everything did he return to his own room.
At the same time, Lin Xi went to Zhang Wen’s room.
“The bed in here is quite large. Two people can sleep on it comfortably.” Lin Xi took off her denim jacket, revealing her full breasts and slender waist, an alluring sight.
As a beautiful livestream host, she knew exactly where her advantages lay and how to make use of them.
Thus, while taking off her jacket, Lin Xi had also, seemingly unintentionally, displayed her figure to Zhang Wen.
Zhang Wen was a physical education teacher with a running-related character skill. If she could build a good relationship with him, he might even save her life in a moment of danger.
Unfortunately, much to Lin Xi’s disappointment, Zhang Wen seemed distracted. Ever since entering the room, he had simply sat blankly on the bed, barely saying a word.
Lin Xi assumed that he was in a bad mood, so she said nothing and climbed onto the inner side of the bed to lie down.
For a while, she continued pretending to be pitiful, but Zhang Wen gave her very little response.
Another hour passed before Zhang Wen suddenly spoke.
“By the way, Lin Xi, what life-saving item did you exchange for in the hall earlier?”
Seeing that Zhang Wen was finally responding, Lin Xi assumed that he had taken an interest in her and replied warmly, “Brother Zhang, I exchanged for a life-saving lamp—the one that can resist a ghost for five seconds.”
Zhang Wen nodded. “Ah, that one. I exchanged for a bandage soaked in sheep’s blood. I thought it might come in handy if I got injured later. Since our items are different, we can complement each other. Speaking of which, could you let me take a look at the lamp?”
Lin Xi froze for a moment. Remembering the rule Liu Tong had mentioned earlier—that purchased items could only be used by their owners, and even if someone else took one, they could not use it—she relaxed and took the lamp out of her pocket.
The lamp was miniature while inside the pocket, but returned to its normal size once removed. The arrangement had probably been designed for the players’ convenience.
Zhang Wen examined the lamp with great interest, turning it over carefully in his hands.
Lin Xi, however, suddenly felt that something was wrong.
It was a very strange sense of incongruity.
She had felt that something was off ever since an hour ago.
But after thinking about it for a while and finding nothing unusual, she decided that it was merely an illusion caused by her fear of being trapped in a horror game.
Suddenly, Zhang Wen said, “It’s time to turn off the light.”
With that, he walked over to the door and switched off the lamp.
Whoosh.
The entire room instantly fell into darkness.
Zhang Wen then climbed into bed and lay down with his back to Lin Xi.
Lin Xi felt utterly exhausted as well, so she lay down too.
Although both her mind and body were fatigued, her consciousness was unusually alert and clear.
Lin Xi was familiar with this feeling. Whenever she suffered from insomnia, she would become like this. In the end, she simply stopped trying to sleep and sat up.
The bedroom was pitch-black. Only the moonlight streaming through the window faintly outlined the room.
At that moment, Zhang Wen had his back to her and seemed to have fallen sound asleep.

Having someone beside her made Lin Xi feel much safer.
Unable to sleep because of her insomnia, Lin Xi gradually became alert again and began thinking about what, exactly, had seemed wrong earlier.
After a while, the clock outside the bedroom chimed. It was now midnight.
Lin Xi stretched and rubbed her eyes.
She had cried through the entire previous night, leaving her eyes sore and swollen. Even blinking now caused some discomfort.
Wait…
Lin Xi suddenly froze.
Blinking?
She stared blankly at Zhang Wen lying in the darkness. At last, she realized where that persistent sense of incongruity had come from.
Ever since Zhang Wen entered the room, had he blinked even once?
Boom!
A chill seeped through her entire body.
Only then did she notice how unnaturally calm Zhang Wen was as he lay in the darkness—calm as a corpse.
Overwhelmed by terror, she instinctively reached for the life-saving lamp in her pocket. Her empty pocket made her realize that after taking the lamp from her, Zhang Wen had never returned it.
Her face turned deathly pale, as though she had suddenly fallen gravely ill.
Driven by the instinct to survive, she looked toward the distance and saw that the lamp had been placed on a table far away.
Summoning her courage, Lin Xi slowly raised her head and secretly glanced at Zhang Wen. He appeared to have his eyes closed.
She then crawled slowly toward the mirror, her body trembling.
But halfway there, an icy hand suddenly seized her arm.
“Where are you going?”
Lin Xi’s body stiffened. She turned her head.
Zhang Wen had one eye closed, while the other was secretly open.
He had been pretending to sleep!
And the open eye was staring at her with vicious malice.
“Ahhhh!”
A shriek rang throughout the entire ship.
…
Bai Wan opened his eyes warily when he heard the scream. Both hands went into his pockets: his left gripping a lamp, his right holding a bottle of blood wine.
The lamp could resist a ghost for five seconds, while the blood wine could erase one’s presence.
These were the only life-saving items he could currently use.
As for the bloodstained skeletal bandage, a cursed item, Bai Wan still could not afford to use it.
Listening to the scream, Bai Wan could not help shaking his head.
It seemed that Lin Xi was already finished.
Still, Bai Wan felt no regret.
Lin Xi was simply far too careless. Even if she survived this time, she would probably die in the next instance.
After the scream, the ship fell silent again—or rather, even quieter than before.
A ghost had just killed someone, and no one knew where it might be now.

Under such circumstances, no one dared to go outside.
Everyone hid inside their rooms, afraid to make a sound.
Then, suddenly, the same footsteps heard the previous night sounded outside once more.
Tap, tap, tap…
“Zhang Wen” was walking outside.
“Again?” Bai Wan held his breath and made no sound, pretending, as before, that there was no one in the room.
A few seconds later, Bai Wan saw his doorknob begin to turn.
The ghost seemed to be trying to open his door.
Bai Wan hurriedly took the life-saving lamp into his hands. If the ghost truly entered, he would light it immediately.
But then, the doorknob that had been turning suddenly began to fade away. A moment later, the door itself also started disappearing.
In the end, what had been a door became nothing more than a blank wall.
Bai Wan stared for a moment, and the corner of his mouth twitched.
No way…
This familiar sense of déjà vu…
Had a bug appeared at such a critical moment?
The door had suddenly vanished several times in the real world before.
Could bugs occur inside this ghostly game as well?
What?
Bai Wan stared blankly at the door that had turned into a wall.
He was safe now, but…
How was he supposed to get out?
Outside the room, “Zhang Wen” also stood there in a daze, staring motionlessly at the wall before him.
Perhaps it was only his imagination, but even the face that had been filled with malice and murderous intent now showed a trace of bewilderment. It reached out and felt along the wall from top to bottom.
Where was the door?
Where was the door I had been turning?
Without a door, how am I supposed to get inside and kill someone?
What?
This was truly an encounter with a ghost!
And so, “Zhang Wen” and Bai Wan stared at each other across the wall.
Perhaps this was the first time since the birth of the ghostly game that such a harmonious scene had appeared between a human and a ghost.
Bang, bang, bang!
“Zhang Wen” seemed to feel that he had been made a fool of and began pounding frantically on the wall.
Inside, Bai Wan felt terribly wronged.
It wasn’t as though he had done it on purpose. Why was it acting so aggressively toward him?
He was a victim too.
Now that the wall no longer had a door, how was he supposed to get out?
Could he really remain trapped in the room until the game ended?
