Chapter 33: That Is Not How the Plot Is Supposed to Go

At the ticket gate, Lu Mingfei exited the Literature Club chat on his phone, then waited there in bored silence.
The Little Heavenly Maiden had been crying so hard she looked like a tear-streaked kitten. She had probably gone to the restroom to touch up her makeup.
Fortunately, she was brisk by nature and naturally beautiful. A quick wash of her face was enough to restore her radiant appearance.
“You’re still here? I thought you’d leave without a word after doing your good deed, hiding your merit and fame.”
“Are you kidding? I rushed over to save the day without even eating. I’m not going anywhere until I’ve collected my appearance fee.” Lu Mingfei pointed toward the ticket counter in the distance, making his position clear.
“Food, food, food! All you ever think about is food. I’ll let you eat your fill!”
Su Xiaoqiang huffed off to buy Lu Mingfei’s appearance fee, completely failing to notice that he had already turned his gaze elsewhere and was staring at a blond, blue-eyed foreigner in the cinema’s waiting area.
Custodian Number Four: “…”
Why did he suddenly feel as though a thorn were digging into his back?
According to Kassel College’s assessment report, Lu Mingfei should still be nothing more than an ordinary, unawakened human being.
He had poor physical fitness, had never received professional training, and was in terrible shape. He could probably run three thousand meters only to collapse dead on the track.
But based solely on the two moves he had witnessed from the doorway, Custodian Number Four dared to declare that Lu Mingfei had absolutely undergone training.
His attacking movements had been far too practiced and far too fast, while his control of force had been nearly perfect.
With only the slightest adjustment to the points of impact, they would become the most practical techniques in a street brawl—or even a fight to the death: throw sand, gouge the eyes, strike the throat!
After the four high school students had gone down, the boy’s leg had even twitched. Clearly, he had wanted to add a kick between the legs. He was vicious to an almost frightening degree!
No wonder the boy had spent so much time recently tracking the traces left behind by Chu Zihang. So the true face hidden beneath his disguise was that of another born killer!
Custodian Number Four had no doubt that if Lu Mingfei had truly wanted them dead—and if this cinema had been located in the United States or Mexico—that pack of bullies who had harassed and ostracized their classmates would all have ended up dead.
An AR-15 semi-automatic rifle would have taken care of the rest.
He really had no idea what the people in Intelligence were doing to earn their salaries. How could they have missed such vital information? He strongly recommended that the principal send every last one of them to the Arctic to raise seals!
The tall, powerfully built Custodian Number Four did his best to remain calm. Pretending to make a phone call while actually reporting the situation to Norma, he did not forget to observe Lu Mingfei’s movements through the reflection in the glass.
Only after seeing Lu Mingfei leave with the mixed-blood girl, carrying popcorn and a cola, did he finally breathe a sigh of relief.
Outside the cinema, Lu Mingfei held the largest bucket of popcorn and the biggest cup of cola available, looking completely satisfied.
“All right, this is where we part ways. Hurry up and have your driver come pick you up. A young girl wandering around alone at night is liable to run into some scumbag.”
“You’re so annoying!”
Su Xiaoqiang took out her phone and sent a text. Then, folding her arms across her chest, she looked Lu Mingfei up and down. He seemed to have returned to his usual self, yet her gaze lingered repeatedly on the face he had left completely exposed to the night air.

“Seriously, what happened to you today? Did you take the wrong medicine or something? You clearly ran away, so why did you come back?
“And even if I ignore the fact that you suddenly started spouting vulgarities without the slightest sign of nervousness, you actually dared to hit people! I was terrified that Xu Yanyan and Xu Miaomiao would rush over and crush you.”
Her words came fast and sharp, sounding rather like an outlet for all the grievance and tension bottled up inside her.
As for anger, perhaps there had been some. But the moment Lu Mingfei threw his first punch, it had been thoroughly extinguished by the mineral water flying through the air.
“What’s that saying again…” Lu Mingfei chewed on popcorn, racking his brains for the favorite catchphrase of his chuunibyou days.
“Oh, right. I’m the sort of person who occasionally goes crazy.
“Just assume I happened to forget my medicine today and was also going through my monthly ball-changing season. Boys have a few days like that every month, you know. Understanding is everything.”
In truth, he was a little worried that this girl would ask the one question nobody wanted asked: why had he shown no reaction at all after seeing Chen Wenwen throw herself into someone else’s arms?
Fortunately, the Little Heavenly Maiden was still the heaven-blessed daughter she had always been. She would not remain tearful and resentful over an imperfect unrequited love—actually, it had been a very obvious one. Now, she even seemed to have begun moving on.
“What kind of ball-changing season makes a coward like you suddenly become so much stronger?”
“That’s a long story, so let’s just not talk about it.” Lu Mingfei was worried that if he told her the truth, Su Xiaoqiang’s father might become so furious that he suffered a premature heart attack.
At that point, to prevent their simple friendship from changing into something else, he decisively sold out President Su.
“By the way, this afternoon I saw your father discussing business with the chairman of the Lu Group. When he got into his car, he pressed a hand to his chest, and his complexion looked a little off. Is there something wrong with his heart or lungs?
“I’m telling you, you need to pay attention to this sort of thing. Overwork can lead to illness, and even minor aches and pains can develop into serious problems. Early examination, early detection, early treatment.”
The moment those words were spoken, Su Xiaoqiang forgot all about the rescue, the heroics, and Lu Mingfei’s sudden transformation. Her entire attention flew to her father’s health.
She took out her phone and called her mother, planning to join forces with her the next day, Saturday, and drag Old Su to the hospital for a complete checkup.
By the time she finished the call, the car sent to pick her up had arrived.
“Oh, right. Little Heavenly Maiden, you absolutely cannot give me away over this. Otherwise, if everyone makes a huge fuss and the examination finds nothing wrong, President Su will blame me for meddling. I still want to be able to go gold-farming at your family’s mine if I ever hit rock bottom.”
“Don’t worry. I won’t tell anyone. It’ll be our secret.”
The Little Heavenly Maiden opened the car door. Before leaving, she looked at Lu Mingfei and said earnestly:
“Thanks for today. If you ever run into trouble, don’t hide it from me. I, Su Xiaoqiang, will definitely help you!”
With that, she climbed into the car, shut the door, and urged the driver to leave in one fluid motion, not giving Lu Mingfei even the chance to exchange a few polite words.
“Heh. She really is a whirlwind, that Little Heavenly Maiden.”
Lu Mingfei watched Su Xiaoqiang and her Mercedes-Benz S500 disappear into the distance. Then he turned toward the other side, where a scarlet Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano sat waiting with its engine off—and toward the red-haired beauty dressed in full finery behind the wheel.

“I wonder what business you have with me this time, Little Witch?”
Although he had failed to add Chu Zihang over the past two days, Lu Mingfei had obtained the QQ accounts of Ye Sheng and Jiude Yaji, and had successfully dug up a small amount of information.
Among it was information about the lunatic named Chen Motong, who preferred to be called Nono and went by the nickname Red-Haired Witch.
Yes, the description above was the full character profile of Nono that he had pieced together from the information currently available to him.
Still, the lunatic was not wearing that glaringly green school uniform today. Instead, she had dressed up carefully.
Her dark-red hair hung loose in several large waves, while her deep-purple skirt suit accentuated her graceful figure to perfection.
Pale-moon silk evening gloves, purple stockings, a complete set of custom jewelry fashioned from gold and amethyst, and ten-centimeter killer heels. She looked exactly like—
An agent cosplaying Miss Fortune’s Agent skin from League of Legends!
Honestly, give her a pair of golden pistols and the resemblance would be perfect.
Only her expression seemed a little strange. She looked like someone who had been pulled over by the traffic police for driving in killer heels, then subjected to a stern lecture.
“I came to join in the fun.” Nono leaned against the car door, her tone tinged with regret.
“What a pity. If I hadn’t run into a little trouble on the way, I definitely would have made it in time to see you, junior, show off your heroic side.”
Just as Lu Mingfei had guessed, she had been stopped by traffic police on her way over after changing clothes, and had spent several minutes being educated by the roadside.
She was young and beautiful, driving a luxury car, and obviously looked like a wealthy heiress. Even so, the officer had immediately told her that someone had reported seeing a woman driving while wearing ten-centimeter high heels.
If it had not been rush hour, and if she had not shown such a sincere attitude in admitting her mistake—along with mentioning that she knew the chairman of the Black Prince Group—she would probably have wasted even more time.
According to her original plan, Lu Mingfei should have arrived at the cinema under the guidance of the custodian, where she would personally reveal the truth about the Literature Club gathering.
Then, while the lovelorn and humiliated junior was utterly despairing, she would make a grand entrance as the cool, handsome, beautiful, and dashing senior who arrived in the nick of time to save the day. She would win his heart and spirit away the S-rank recruit to Kassel College.
At the very least, Lu Mingfei would have lost the love of his life, abandoned his disguise, revealed his fangs, and thrown himself into a brawl with everyone present—only to be beaten senseless because he had yet to awaken.
At the critical moment, she would then have appeared with several large men in black suits, forcefully rescued Lu Mingfei, and solemnly told him that only power and authority could protect his love. That would have made him willingly join Kassel.
The plan had been flawless. Yet when put into practice, it had ended up riddled with holes.
The leading lady had arrived late. The leading man had stormed the dragon’s lair alone, rescued the beauty, defeated a crowd single-handedly, and cursed the entire Literature Club until they were thoroughly humiliated.
“This isn’t how the story was supposed to go!”
Nono shook her head and sighed inwardly.
