Chapter 41: Unlucky Bonney

Jewelry Bonney, currently in the middle of a frantic escape, was utterly furious. She felt that her chemistry with Straw Hat Luffy was practically nonexistent—worse than terrible.

Not only did this guy steal the meat right off her plate, but he was also a complete idiot who couldn't understand a single word of human speech!

"There's nothing we can do about that. Who told that guy to be so annoying... Speaking of which, what's the deal with the Celestial Dragons? Why is everyone terrified of them to that extent?"

Zoro slashed his blades as he ran, deflecting the bullets raining down upon them. The Marines on the island were pursuing them like madmen, making it feel as though they had just poked a giant hornet's nest.

"Ahahaha! Gum-Gum Gatling!"

Luffy ran right at the front, clearing the path for his crewmates. Even though he was being hunted by the Marines, he was laughing cheerfully, completely unconcerned by a crisis of this magnitude.

The Marines from the Sabaody Archipelago branch didn't even qualify as cannon fodder in front of Luffy. Dozens of them charged forward together, only to be knocked down completely in the blink of an eye.

"Indeed, Miss Bonney, what on earth is the background of the Celestial Dragons? Even if they're just nobles from some country or another, this is simply too exaggerated!"

Sanji gallantly guarded the two ladies in the group, kicking away any Marines who attempted to intercept them at every opportunity.

Chopper, Coby, and Usopp—the three unfortunate kids—could only stick closely behind Brook and Franky, terrified of falling behind and getting separated.

"What kind of deserted island did you guys set sail from? You don't even know who the Celestial Dragons are?!"

Bonney was utterly shocked by the Straw Hat Pirates. To think there were still such bumpkins around nowadays who were completely ignorant of the Celestial Dragons' identity!

The mere thought that she might be dragged down by this bunch of idiots made Bonney want to cry without tears.

Though she had ways to escape even if she fell into the hands of the Marines, she still felt immensely wronged.

"The Celestial Dragons are the descendants of the twenty kings who established the World Government eight hundred years ago. They are the privileged class that rules over the world, known as the World Nobles..."

Robin spoke with a wry smile. She actually knew what the Celestial Dragons were, but when the incident happened, she and Chopper had been buying books at a bookstore and hadn't managed to stop Luffy from punching people.

"Magnet弦!"

Right at that moment, all the metal in the vicinity seemed to be drawn by some magnetic force, flying toward a street corner not far away.

Fortunately, Zoro and Brook tightened their grips on their sword hilts, preventing their weapons from being ripped away by the mysterious attraction. Franky, meanwhile, almost had his entire body sucked over.

'Boom!'

A barricade piled high with various heavy objects by the Marines was shattered by a massive mechanical arm, and Eustass Kid appeared at the corner of the street with a face full of fury.

"It's you lot! The idiots who attacked a Celestial Dragon and brought an Admiral down upon us!"

Kid looked extremely irritable. Ever since arriving at the Sabaody Archipelago, he had been trying hard to rein in his temper under Killer's persuasion, all for the sake of getting his ship coated and heading to the New World as quickly as possible.

And yet, just as the coating process was nearly complete, a bunch of reckless upstarts from nowhere popped out and audibly assaulted a Celestial Dragon.

Clearly, he had exercised so much patience, only for all his efforts to fall through at the crucial moment!

"What?! A Marine Admiral?"

Upon hearing this, the expressions of the Straw Hat Pirates changed drastically. Right before reaching Water 7, they had encountered a Marine Admiral known as Aokiji.

Rather than a battle, it had been a completely one-sided massacre.

That was an existence completely surpassing everyone in the Straw Hat Pirates. Even now, having experienced it once already, they still couldn't imagine how anyone could possibly fight such a monster.

"Has an Admiral already arrived? How is it so fast?! Which one is it?"

Bonney glared angrily at the Straw Hats, silently praying that it wouldn't be the most terrifying one.

Even Akainu was acceptable; of course, the best possible outcome would be Aokiji.

Aokiji's personality was quite lazy. Under normal circumstances, once he dealt with the person who attacked the Celestial Dragon and the nearby pirates, he would call it a day. Therefore, having him show up would be best by far.

As for Akainu, he was the most brutal toward pirates. Meeting him meant the only choice was to surrender obediently while praying that Akainu was in a good mood and still willing to throw them into Impel Down.

Yet against that other man, as long as one was fast and lucky, there was still a sliver of chance to escape.

The most terrifying one was Kizaru. Regardless of how well-known Borsalino was in Marineford as a notorious slacker, no pirate had ever managed to escape from his presence.

Even Kaido of the Beasts, when he encountered Borsalino back then, only found a chance to escape after the branch Marines took over.

If not for the fact that Borsalino's strength was too overwhelming and his efficiency too high, given his personality and his still-unproven suspicions regarding the murder of a Celestial Dragon, he would never have been able to sit so securely in the position of Marine Admiral.

"How the hell should I know?!"

Kid roared in extreme annoyance. No matter how high an opinion he had of himself, he didn't believe his current strength was enough to fight a Marine Admiral.

What infuriated him the most was that he had endured for so long, only to be backstabbed by someone else just as he was about to leave the Sabaody Archipelago.

"Whichever one it is, it's going to be troublesome. Our only choice right now is to form a temporary alliance and rope in a few more Supernovas to join forces. Perhaps then we'll have a chance to make it out alive right in front of a Marine Admiral..."

Killer, the masked 'Massacre Soldier', stepped forward and spoke. However, the reasoning he used to persuade Kid was entirely different.

If they wanted to escape from under the nose of a Marine Admiral, they had to find some scapegoats to throw to the wolves—preferably the very gang that had attacked the Celestial Dragons.

Upon discovering that the ones who assaulted the Celestial Dragons were the Straw Hat Pirates and the Glutton Bonney, Killer was actually quite pleased. With three formidable Supernovas gathered together, even if they weren't a match for an Admiral, they could at least buy some time.

Moreover, as the actual attackers, those guys would undoubtedly attract the Admiral's attention, greatly increasing the probability that the Kid Pirates could slip away in the chaos.

Yet what Killer hadn't anticipated was that upon seeing Straw Hat Luffy and Glutton Bonney, Kid's heart—imbued with the reckless courage to challenge the strong, or rather, the sheer drive to court death—began to harbor inappropriate ideas.

"Jewelry Bonney with a bounty of 140 million Berries, Roronoa Zoro with 120 million Berries, and the Straw Hat brat with a bounty of 300 million Berries... Hey, Killer, are there any other tough characters left on the island right now?"

Kid felt his heartbeat accelerating. Perhaps before heading to the New World to challenge those Emperors of the Sea, he could get a preliminary taste of what monsters of that level were capable of.

"Don't worry, there are still several other Supernovas... Wait! Kid, calm down!"

True to being the close friend who had set sail alongside Kid, Killer guessed what his captain intended to do simply by hearing the shift in his tone.

It wasn't that they couldn't challenge a Marine Admiral, but doing so was still far too early for them!

At the very least, it would take another three to five years for Kid to grow to the point where he could contend with monsters of that caliber.
