Chapter 32: Relentless Bombardment
When dealing with the Great Demon and the Silver-Armored Corpse previously, Lin Bei, Uncle Fung, and the others had overlooked one thing: these demons and ghosts are all afraid of lightning. Moreover, because those encounters took place in the wilderness, setting up an electric grid had been impractical. This time, however, was different. To deal with the demon and the Qin Corpse, Lin Bei had prepared equipment specifically to construct a high-voltage electric grid.
Once the ancient urn was positioned, Lin Bei directed his bodyguards to set up the grid. There was a small power plant on the island, which Lin Bei had commandeered. With the help of experts he had hired, and utilizing technology obtained from the Soviet Union, they had rigged a temporary substation to boost the voltage. After the grid was finished, Lin Bei ordered the workers and his bodyguards to withdraw to the shore; they were unable to assist with the coming struggle, and staying would only be a hindrance.
After Uncle Fung and Uncle Kau finished setting up the remaining items, Lin Bei activated the grid. Zhang Shisan then proceeded to break the seal on the urn by burning the talisman paper attached to it. The moment the seal was broken, a wisp of smoke hissed from the urn. Wearing special sunglasses, Lin Bei immediately recognized it as resentment that had nearly condensed into a physical form. He couldn't help but wonder how many people that demon had killed to accumulate such a vast amount of malice.
As the smoke cleared, a monster with a green face, sharp fangs, and clad in ancient robes lunged out of the urn. After letting out a hiss, the demon sneered at the iron cage trapping her and leaped into the air, attempting to flee. However, the moment she touched the iron bars, a massive electric current surged through her, and the demon screamed as she was jolted back to her starting position.
Seizing the opportunity, Zhang Shisan aimed his mandala at the demon and recited a incantation: "By the decree of the law, suppress!" The mandala erupted with light, striking the demon directly. Under the radiance, the demon hissed as if splashed with acid, smoke rising continuously from her body. Simultaneously, Uncle Fung, Uncle Kau, and Zhong Fabai threw their ropes. Now restrained by the mandala, the demon found her head and arms bound as well. The three men then channeled electricity through their specially crafted ropes, and Lin Bei hit the switch, triggering the high-voltage current once more. This time, the electricity coursed through the demon’s entire body; unable to escape, her piercing wails echoed incessantly.
Seeing that the moment had arrived, Ma Xiaoling, who had been prepared, threw out her talisman star. "Lin, Bing, Dou, Zhe, Jie, Zhen, Lie, Zai, Qian—exorcise evil!"
A golden dragon roared, its claws swiping down toward the demon. Having been sealed for years, the demon was at her weakest, and after being battered by the high-voltage electricity and the mandala, she possessed less than one percent of her peak power. Bound by three master exorcists, she had no ability to resist and was pierced through the heart by the Dragon God.
Seeing the demon on the verge of total destruction, Lin Bei switched off the electric cage and stepped forward, unleashing the Tenth Form of Sun Breathing: Raging Sun. In the blink of an eye, Lin Bei swung his exorcism sword over a dozen times; bolstered by his internal energy, his speed was blinding. The True Sun Fire generated by the Sun Breathing technique manifested through his swordsmanship—much like in the anime *Demon Slayer*—forming a massive dragon of flame that swept toward the demon. Having reached the end of her tether, the demon was utterly incinerated by Lin Bei’s attack, leaving not even a speck of dust behind.
In the film *Ghost Fever*, Zhang Shisan had struggled to defeat the demon while surrounded by incompetent allies. This time, however, with seven of the world’s top exorcists gathered, the task was significantly easier. Zhang Shisan, who had appeared burdened with worry since Lin Bei first met him, finally broke into a smile. However, his features were such that while he looked fine when serious, his smile carried a hint of silliness. As his nephew, Zhang Tianai was equally relieved; if the demon had escaped, she would surely have sought revenge on the Zhang family. If his uncle had died, he would have been next. Zhang Tianai had just taken his relationship with the Little Dragon Maiden to the next level and had no desire to die so pointlessly.
Lin Bei returned to the village with Ma Xiaoling and the others, only to discover that, apart from the opera troupe, most of the villagers had already evacuated. Seeing the troupe members still rehearsing, Lin Bei frowned and went to find Old Yang, who was busy giving instructions to the villagers. For this evacuation, everyone in the village could leave, except for the heads of the Yang, Li, and Qian families. As the direct descendants of the culprits involved in the robbery three hundred years ago, the Qin Corpse and the vengeful spirits would seek them out first once they were released. As clan heads, Old Yang and the others were the primary targets.
Their instructions, therefore, sounded somewhat like final testaments. Lin Bei waited for Old Yang to finish before calling him over and pointing toward the opera troupe. "What is going on with them?"
Old Yang had intended to spin a lie, but upon seeing the expression on Lin Bei's face, he felt a shiver down his spine and decided to tell the truth. "I paid them extra to stay and finish performing *The Flooding of Jinshan Temple*. Even though you and the masters you hired are here, I thought a little extra insurance wouldn't hurt."
Lin Bei shook his head. Clearly, Old Yang still didn't trust that they could handle the Qin Corpse, so he had bought himself a backup plan. But he had forgotten that their plan involved releasing the Qin Corpse to kill it, which meant they had to actively break the seals. Even if the troupe performed the play perfectly, it would be of no use.
"Tell them to leave, or we'll be distracted by having to look after them. Also, find a way to get those three policemen out of here as well."
Old Yang wanted to insist, but a single glance from Lin Bei caused him to swallow his words. He nodded and said, "I will handle it immediately."
After Old Yang left, Lin Bei led Ma Xiaoling and the others toward the ancestral graveyard. As soon as they arrived, Gao Jin approached, escorting two bruised and battered middle-aged men. "Boss, these two were acting suspiciously, trying to sneak into the underground."
Lin Bei glanced at the two unlucky fools; there was no need to guess—they were the characters from the movie who had snuck in to hunt for treasure. The one with the mustache was likely the lover of the woman who had been drowned in a pig cage, and the other was the one who had struck him in the back with a shovel just before discovering the treasure. Neither was a good person, and keeping them around would only cause trouble. Lin Bei said nothing, merely giving a look to Gao Jin, who understood immediately and dragged the two wretches away.
Ma Xiaoling asked curiously, "What are these two doing?"
Lin Bei gestured toward the Taiji diagram on the ground. "Grave robbing."
Upon hearing this, Ma Xiaoling lost all interest. Grave robbers were never welcomed, and righteous exorcists despised them. After all, it was often because of these people disturbing the dead that hauntings and corpse resurrections occurred.
