Chapter 15: The True Barrage Against the Zombies
“Move aside!”
Zhong Fabai shouted loudly and, before the two beams of red light could strike Lin Bei, he forcefully moved in front of him, shielding him from the attack.
At that moment, Lin Bei had just managed to react, his face full of astonishment as he looked at Zhong Fabai.
Old Zhong is impressive! When it matters, he really steps up!
Lin Bei reached out to support Zhong Fabai. Zhang Shisan and Qiu Shu had already engaged the Great Demon God, temporarily diverting its attention.
Zhong Fabai lifted his clothes, revealing an old, red protective garment underneath, inscribed with countless runes.
Had it not been for this ancestral magical artifact passed down from the founder, there would surely be two holes in his chest by now.
Even so, Zhong Fabai was gritting his teeth in pain, likely having broken at least two ribs.
“Mr. Lin, I’m sorry, I’m afraid I won’t be able to fight anymore,” Zhong Fabai said.
Lin Bei smiled reassuringly. “It’s alright, we can handle this.”
Signaling the bodyguards to carry Zhong Fabai away, Lin Bei lifted his head again, his expression now icy.
If not for Zhong Fabai’s shield just now, he probably would have been done for.
He blamed himself for underestimating the enemy, causing such a mistake.
By now, the Great Demon God was being distracted by Feng Shu, Qiu Shu, and the others. The plan to set up the Prior Heaven Eight Trigrams Formation had long been forgotten.
This was their first time working together, unfamiliar with each other’s methods. Once external forces intervened, disruption was inevitable.
Lin Bei picked up the exorcism sword from the ground but did not rush forward recklessly; going in now would only cause chaos.
Yet, he also refused to stand idly by. He turned to Gao Jin, who immediately pulled out a grenade launcher prepared earlier and aimed it at the Great Demon God in the arena.
Once ready, Lin Bei shouted across the field, “Everyone, scatter!”
Feng Shu, Ma Xiaoling, and the others immediately abandoned their struggle with the Great Demon God and swiftly retreated.
The Great Demon God roared and lunged straight at Ma Xiaoling’s position.
Previously, the Dragon God Curse she cast had made it feel extremely threatened, so it naturally chose to eliminate her first.
Though Ma Xiaoling was inexperienced, aside from Feng Shu and Zhang Shisan, she was the most well-equipped person present.
Though the Dragon God Curse couldn’t be cast repeatedly in a short time, that didn’t mean Ma Xiaoling lacked other means.
She threw out another talisman star, forming hand seals as she began chanting, “By the Dragon God’s decree, with the Wind God’s aid, the Nine Dragons Bind Spirit Immobilization Curse—bind!”
The talisman star burst from her hand, releasing nine beams of yellow light that shot toward the Great Demon God in various directions.
The once ferocious demon was instantly frozen in place.
However, its body trembled increasingly violently, showing that the Ma family’s unique immobilization curse could not hold it for long.
Fortunately, Zhang Shisan and Feng Shu were nearby, reinforcing the immobilization with Mandala and Demon-Reflecting Mirror talismans.
Judging by their sweat-drenched faces, they wouldn’t be able to maintain control much longer.
Seeing this opportunity, Lin Bei immediately commanded, “Attack!”
Gao Jin fired without hesitation.
The launcher released a blood-red massive net covered in talismans, which wrapped around the Great Demon God with a crackling sound.
This talisman net was crafted from materials provided by Lin Bei and made by Zhang Tian’ai and Yun Qing, combining exorcism technology and traditional Taoist magic.
Its blood-red hue came from being soaked in black dog’s blood and rooster’s blood, both known to restrain malevolent spirits.
Though it couldn’t trap the Great Demon God completely, combined with the Ma family’s immobilization curse and the talismans wielded by Feng Shu and Zhang Shisan, it at least rendered the demon immobile for a while.
Watching the immobilized demon, Lin Bei’s eyes hardened. He then pulled out a cannonball thicker than his thigh.
He addressed everyone, “Gentlemen, let’s go!”
Seeing such a huge cannonball for the first time, Feng Shu and the others looked uneasy.
They were accustomed to traditional exorcism methods. Even Yun Qing, who specialized in technological exorcism, only used conventional means.
Cannon-fire against zombies? They had thought about it but never considered actually implementing it.
Not only was it expensive, but using modern weaponry required training and preparation.
Studying Taoism was already grueling enough; there was no time to learn modern weapons, especially something as complex as a cannon, which was not as simple as pulling a trigger like a gun.
Despite their surprise, they obediently prepared.
Feng Shu and the others were curious whether modern weapons combined with Taoism could kill a millennium-old zombie.
Of all of them, Ma Xiaoling looked at Lin Bei with the most intense gaze, for she had an even more formidable enemy than the undead—General Jiang!
“By the Dragon God’s decree, by the Thunder Lord’s might…”
“Five Stars Subdue the Spectrum, Light Illuminates the Abyss, Myriad Gods and Saints, Protect My True Spirit, Great Heavenly Beast, Restrain the Five Weapons, Five Heavenly Demons, Destroy Form and Being, Where I Stand, All Gods Welcome, Swift as the Law Commands!”
The six exorcists cast their spells simultaneously on the cannonball.
When preparations were complete, Wang Jianjun loaded the cannonball into the cannon, aimed at the Great Demon God, and fired.
A tremendous boom followed.
The power of modern weaponry was unparalleled; Lin Bei even felt the ground beneath his feet shake.
When the dust settled, only a pile of remains lay where the Great Demon God had stood.
Even under the cannon’s blast, it had not been completely destroyed. This millennium-old zombie truly had a stubborn life force.
The rotting flesh still twitched; given enough time and blood, it might even revive again.
Taking advantage of the distraction, Lin Bei quietly asked Kuang Tianyou, “Sir Kuang, if you were the one about to be blasted, do you think you could survive this?”
Kuang Tianyou frowned, thinking for a moment before answering, “It would be difficult, but after feeding on fresh blood, I feel my body evolving. Perhaps one day I could withstand a cannon blast.”
Lin Bei fell silent, expressionless as he looked at Kuang Tianyou, feeling an unusual pang in his heart at that moment.
Other beings, including demons and ghosts, must cultivate step by step to grow stronger.
Only zombies evolve simply with enough fresh blood and time.
No wonder they were rejected by the Three Realms and the Six Paths. Such creatures should not exist.
Having no more hunger, Kuang Tianyou’s senses sharpened considerably. He immediately sensed Lin Bei’s subtle hostility and quietly shifted his footing to create distance.
While they spoke, Feng Shu and Ma Xiaoling had already cleaned up the Great Demon God’s remains.
They couldn’t handle the intact demon, but once reduced to fragments, it became much easier to dispose of using conventional Taoist methods.
After ensuring no pieces were left behind, they returned to Lin Bei.
“Mr. Lin, all the remains have been taken care of. There shouldn’t be any further trouble.”
