Volume Two – The General’s Tomb Chapter Four – The Women’s Special Forces
Li Kun saw the two men daring to raise their hands against him and curled his lips in disdain, saying, “You actually dare to try and fight me.” As he spoke, he clenched his fists, but in the next moment, he watched as I lunged at the two men from behind him.
Li Kun paused, slightly surprised. “Old Liu, you’re even more eager to show off than I am!” With that, he, too, charged at the two.
Li Kun went for the man with the prominent forehead lines, while I targeted the skinny one who had attacked Gao Feng. In just a brief exchange, I knocked the skinny man flat on the ground, where he clutched his stomach and wailed in agony.
The man with the forehead lines fared even worse. Li Kun, trained for years, rarely held back, though he was cautious not to cause real trouble; his punch landed squarely on the man's chest. To Li Kun’s surprise, the man was sent reeling several meters backward before collapsing in a heap, instantly unconscious.
Li Kun blinked in astonishment. “I didn’t even use much force. How can he be so fragile?”
I felt a wave of exasperation and patted Li Kun on the shoulder. “Remember to be gentler next time.”
Li Kun scratched his head. I walked over to the skinny man, crouched down, grabbed his collar, and yanked him up to eye level.
At first, the skinny man seemed unfazed by my gaze, but then he sensed an oppressive aura emanating from me. A thought flashed through his mind: “Damn, has this guy actually killed someone? Looks like I’ve run into real trouble this time.”
I spoke coldly, “I won’t hold this incident against you, but I don’t want there to be a next time. Otherwise—” I left the threat unfinished, but the skinny man was already nodding desperately, signaling his understanding.
I released his collar and brushed off imaginary dust from my hands. Li Kun, seeing my demeanor, immediately realized something.
He turned to glance at the two women behind us. Upon seeing Gao Feng and the other woman, understanding dawned on him. “No wonder Old Liu is acting like this. That tall beauty must be the Gao Feng who invited us out.”
I stepped in front of Gao Feng, while Li Kun addressed the crowd, “Nothing to see here. Move along, everyone.” Then he turned to the skinny man. “Take your friend home—he’ll recover after a few weeks. Remember, avoid spicy food during this time or he’ll suffer long-term consequences.”
The skinny man nodded fervently, then hurried to help his unconscious companion up and rushed out.
Li Kun’s advice wasn’t unfounded. His father had served in the army since youth and could be called a king among soldiers. Since Li Kun was a child, his father taught him some medical skills—not the complicated cases, but he knew the basics.
I approached Gao Feng, gently ruffling her hair. “It’s all over now.”
Gao Feng murmured softly, then her lips curled into a smile. But in the next moment, she remembered she wasn’t alone—her good friend was beside her.
Li Kun came over as well, grinning at Gao Feng by my side. “Old Liu, is this the tall beauty Gao Feng you always mention?”
I shot Li Kun a glance, thinking, When have I ever talked about her so much? Though I thought it, I didn’t dare say it aloud. Instead, I introduced them, “Gao Feng, this is my comrade, Li Kun. Old Li, this is Gao Feng.”
Gao Feng’s face reddened like a ripe apple, shyly saying, “Hello.”
She quickly grabbed the arm of the woman next to her. “This is my good friend, Tian Tian.”
Only then did I take a proper look at the woman beside Gao Feng. She looked to be twenty-seven or twenty-eight, about a meter sixty-five tall, noticeably shorter than Gao Feng, but quite tall for a woman.
Tian Tian had a delicate oval face, short hair, and a well-toned figure, apparently from frequent exercise. She wasn’t a classic beauty, but the trace of heroic spirit in her expression was striking. Clearly, Tian Tian had served in the military.
She extended her hand and greeted me. I shook it, palm to palm. Tian Tian said, “Your name precedes you. Our little Feng always talks about you.”
Gao Feng playfully smacked Tian Tian’s arm. “That’s nonsense—I only mention him occasionally.”
Tian Tian turned to Li Kun. “Thank you for stepping in earlier.”
When Tian Tian spoke to him, Li Kun stared at her, almost dumbstruck. I patted him on the arm to snap him out of it. Li Kun finally responded, “Ah, it’s nothing, really. Helping others is its own reward—a simple gesture.”
Gao Feng giggled, “If you two hadn’t come, we wouldn’t have been in trouble.”
Li Kun looked at Gao Feng, puzzled. Gao Feng continued, “Tian Tian here just retired from the military. She’s very skilled—and she was a special forces soldier!”
At this, both Li Kun and I were genuinely surprised. I thought, She really is a soldier. I asked, “Miss Tian Tian, where did you serve?”
Tian Tian smiled, and even that small smile left Li Kun dazed. Seeing this, I pinched his arm. “Your drool is showing.”
Li Kun hurriedly wiped his mouth, found nothing, and realized I was teasing him. He scratched his head, embarrassed. “Go on, please. Continue.”
Tian Tian nodded. “I used to be stationed in the Taklamakan Desert.”
At this, we immediately understood where she had served.
There is indeed a renowned women’s special forces unit in the Taklamakan Desert, famous throughout the country.
A few years ago, when I was still in the army, I’d heard tales of this women’s special forces unit.
The incident took place in the Tarim Basin, within the Taklamakan Desert. Several groups of foreign tomb raiders had infiltrated the desert, and they weren’t amateurs—they brought twenty foreign mercenaries.
The Taklamakan Desert hides countless ancient tombs beneath its sands. These foreign tomb raiders sought the relics within those tombs.
Upon learning of the incursion, the army dispatched troops to resolve the matter. But the tomb raiders and mercenaries were heavily armed, their firepower overwhelming.
During the firefights, the military felt the pressure. They pursued the raiders for two weeks without success. If allowed to go further, no one knew how deep they’d penetrate.
The higher-ups, furious, ordered the deployment of special forces.
But coincidentally, the regular special forces were on a mission at the foot of the Tianshan Mountains. If recalled, they’d arrive too late. Out of options, the women’s special forces were sent in.
And in that single operation, the women’s special forces unit became legendary.
On their very first day, they annihilated the mercenaries completely and captured all the tomb raiders alive.
When they returned, even the commander was stunned. Most remarkable of all: the women’s special forces, zero casualties.
