Volume Three: The Fox Immortal’s Tomb Chapter Fifty-Seven: The Battle of the Two Immortals
Seeing the two fox immortals in such a state, the three of us were filled with confusion. While Xu Tian and I remained standing in our original spots, staring at each other, Li Kun could no longer contain his impatience and began walking toward the two fox immortals.
Seeing Li Kun make this move, Xu Tian and I both let out gasps of alarm. I quickly shouted, "Old Li, get back here! Have you lost your mind?"
Li Kun merely waved a hand, tiptoeing all the way to the front of the two fox immortals. Upon seeing this, Xu Tian could not help crying out, "Old Li, get back here immediately! They are performing some kind of secret technique. If you get caught right in the middle of them, you will become their medium! You won't be able to withstand it, get back!"
Hearing this, I was also somewhat startled. When Li Kun heard Xu Tian's warning, he abruptly raised his head, intending to run back, but right at that moment, we saw both fox immortals simultaneously open their eyes.
The eyes of both fox immortals were dyed a solid, bloody red. At that very instant, they raised their hands high, and then we watched as streams of air began to burst forth from their palms, strong enough to plunge anyone's mind into utter faintness.
This blast of air surged straight toward our minds. Xu Tian lost his footing entirely, crashing heavily to the ground and passing out cold. Enduring the throbbing pain in my head, I forced myself to look up at Li Kun and yelled, "Old Li, get back here now!"
The moment I raised my head, I saw a burst of brilliant white radiance suddenly erupt from Hu Yue'er's hands. This white light was as dazzling as the sun, instantly illuminating the entire grand hall. The glare caused sharp pains in my eyes, forcing me to snap them shut.
Yet no sooner had I closed my eyes than I felt an ice-cold, bone-chilling frost suddenly burst forth within the hall. The moment this chill emerged, a wave of black light surged through the chamber. Xu Tian and I were seized by a violent trembling, chilled to the bone as though we were standing naked in the midst of a frozen wilderness.
The very next moment, another flash of white light appeared, and the entire grand hall completely transformed.
On the left side, where we stood, was bathed in pure white light, while the right side of the hall was pitch black. Under their collision, the circular hall was starkly divided into two contrasting colors of black and white.
These two streams of radiance chased and clashed endlessly within the hall, behaving just like day and night. The intense cold we had felt moments before vanished in the blink of an eye, replaced by a soothing warmth as if we were bathing in the spring sunshine, bringing a profound sense of comfort to our bodies.
It was then that I slowly opened my eyes. When I looked toward the center of the hall, I was shocked to see that Li Kun was caught right between the two opposing forces of light. His eyes were wide open, with blinding white light beaming from one eye, while a jet-black glow radiated from the other.
The left side of his body flickered like the blazing sun, while the right side had already completely frozen into solid ice.
At this sight, I let out a cry of alarm and shouted Li Kun's name. Hearing his name called, Li Kun suddenly snapped back to consciousness.
Horrified by his own condition, Li Kun found that his left side felt completely normal and even comfortably warm, but when he tried to move his right arm, he discovered it was encased in a thick, unyielding shell of frost, refusing to budge no matter how hard he struggled. At that exact moment, the white fox shrieked aloud, "Hu Yue'er, do you really think you can defeat me without the reinforcement of a formation? Today, I will completely refine you and turn you into nourishment for my ascension to human form! You must die today!"
As the words fell, the white fox suddenly erupted with surges of black malignant aura—an energy I recognized instantly. Wasn't this black energy the very same death aura that existed within Li Kun's body?
Right then, the other half of Li Kun's body was gradually swallowed by this black death aura. I turned my gaze toward Hu Yue'er beside me, only to see her expression looking exceptionally ghastly, a thin trail of fresh blood slowly seeping from the corner of her mouth.
Seeing that Hu Yue'er was bleeding, I felt a deep sense of foreboding. Logically speaking, Hu Yue'er had already successfully attained human form, so why couldn't she defeat the white fox, which had yet to achieve human form? Even if the white fox had absorbed nearly a millennium of dark negative energy, surely Hu Yue'er hadn't stopped cultivating all these years? What on earth was going on here?
As anxiety burned within me like a blazing fire, I glanced back at Li Kun's location, only to find that his body had been completely swallowed by the churning black death aura. It was impossible to tell whether he was dead or alive.
Gripping the Soul-Slicing Saber in my hand tighter, I realized that if Hu Yue'er perished here as well, none of us would stand a chance of escaping. At this point, it was do-or-die.
With that thought, I braced myself to charge directly into that mass of black death aura. But just as I moved, I heard Li Kun's voice ringing out from within the black light: "What the hell? What is this? This feels way too good!"
Upon hearing those words, the expressions on both Hu Yue'er's and my face shifted dramatically. Li Kun was not only completely unharmed, but he was actually saying it felt *good*?
At that moment, Hu Yue'er let out a heavy cough, and the white light on our side instantly dimmed significantly, forcing Hu Yue'er to stagger back four or five steps.
Knowing we could wait no longer, I shouted at the top of my lungs, "Old Li! What's going on over there? How are you holding up? Are you dead or alive?"
From deep within the black death aura, Li Kun shouted back, "I'm totally fine! In fact, I've never felt better. Not only am I completely unhurt, but even the injuries I got earlier are completely healed!"
Before his voice had even faded, the white fox's voice rang out from his side, demanding, "Why aren't you dead yet? What is the meaning of this? How can a mere living human withstand my death aura?"
Hearing this, realization suddenly dawned on me. These black death auras shared the exact same source as the death energy within Li Kun's own body. Based on what Li Kun had just said, he must have absorbed a portion of this death aura, which not only replenished his own internal energy but also healed his wounds in the process.
Connecting the dots, I immediately yelled to Li Kun, "Old Li, activate your blood eyes and take down that damned fox!"
Hearing my command, Li Kun abruptly turned his head to glare at the white fox, which was still standing frozen in place.
With a look of disdain, the white fox sneered, "Though you haven't died yet, I advise you not to make any rash movements. It only takes a flick of my finger to crush you."
However, Hu Yue'er chimed in at that moment, saying, "She's bluffing. If she dared to move, I would have destroyed her already."
Hearing this, a wave of elation washed over Li Kun. With a grin, he stared at the white fox, who stood with her hands raised high, and taunted, "You damn beast, weren't you acting all high and mighty just now? You almost got old Li killed—now it's my turn!"
The white fox responded with a contemptuous laugh, ignoring Li Kun altogether as another fierce wave of black death aura erupted from her body, forcing Hu Yue'er back a few more steps.
With every step Hu Yue'er retreated, more blood spilled from the corner of her mouth. Her once-flawless, pale face was now smeared with crimson, and even her immaculate white gauze dress had been stained red.
Her brows were knitted tightly together as if she were barely holding on by sheer willpower. Seeing her state, panic gripped me once again, and I hollered, "Old Li, hurry the hell up!"
Hearing me resort to profanity, Li Kun finally cast aside his playful demeanor. He brought up the Type-87 rifle slung across his chest, took aim at the white fox right in front of him, and pulled the trigger.
Yet the white fox merely smiled with utter contempt. When the bullets struck the space in front of her, they lost all momentum instantly and clattered harmlessly to the ground, as though an invisible barrier had blocked their path.
Cursing under his breath, Li Kun closed his eyes slightly. The next moment, a surge of black death aura erupted from his own body, violently pulling the very death energy that was attacking Hu Yue'er straight into his own eyes.
Sensing the sudden lifting of pressure, Hu Yue'er looked startled, for she too felt the sudden surge of death energy emerge from within the black vortex, only to instantly devour the malignant aura targeting her.
The white fox's eyes widened in sheer disbelief as she stared at Li Kun, who now stood with his back to her, and stammered, "How can a living human possess death aura? This is impossible!"
Li Kun slowly turned his head to look at the white fox behind him, offering a faint smile as he replied, "What's so impossible about that?"
The moment the white fox caught sight of Li Kun's eyes, she froze completely, gasping aloud, "Ghost... Ghost Eyes! Why does a living human have Ghost Eyes? How can this be?"
Hearing this, Hu Yue'er wore an equally stunned expression, muttering under her breath, "Ghost Eyes? How is that possible?"
Seeing Hu Yue'er react this way as well, I couldn't help but feel a fresh wave of nervousness. Could Li Kun's eyes truly be called Ghost Eyes? Why did Hu Yue'er look so horrified? Was there some deeper, hidden secret behind these Ghost Eyes?
As for Li Kun, hearing the white fox refer to his eyes as Ghost Eyes left him somewhat bewildered. Just as he opened his mouth to ask, the white fox suddenly burst into wild laughter.
Laughing hysterically, the white fox shrieked at the top of her lungs, "To think a living human actually possesses Ghost Eyes! Even though I am going to die today, you will die a death a thousand, ten thousand times more miserable than mine! Hahaha..."
Hearing this, Xu Tian immediately cursed, "Damn you, you're still trying to curse us? Shut your trap right now!"
As his voice trailed off, two solid pillars of black light began to condense within Li Kun's eyes, shooting out in a straight, blinding beam directly toward the white fox.
Xu Tian, who had just managed to regain consciousness, stared at the unfolding scene with wide-eyed astonishment. He opened his mouth to speak to Hu Yue'er and me, but before a single word could escape his lips, an even more astonishing sight imprinted itself before his eyes.
