Chapter 113: The Female Ghost Demands Her Possession
Before Gao Sheng could react, he glared at me and moved to help the little girl. I grabbed him firmly. “Don’t move! She’s not human!”
The girl who had fallen to the ground suddenly stood upright, her eerie face fixed on me. “You stole my things, give them back! Return my things!”
Suddenly, she flew up, reaching out to grab Gao Sheng. I began chanting the ghost-repelling incantation and quickly slapped a talisman onto her. She screamed, collapsed onto the floor, immobilized by the talisman.
The driver, confused, shouted, “What are you doing?”
“Stop the car! Quick, stop it!” I yelled.
The driver twisted his head and operated the controls but then exclaimed in shock, “Strange! The car won’t stop!”
“Won’t stop? How come?” I asked.
He panicked, “No matter the accelerator or brake, nothing works! The steering wheel’s useless! The car’s moving on its own!”
I was about to step forward when the girl began to struggle, sparks flaring from the talisman on her body.
Zhang Haozi timidly asked, “I-Is this a ghost?”
“What else could it be?!” I snapped. The talisman and incantation worked on her—she was undoubtedly a ghost.
Hearing this, Zhang Haozi immediately shrank behind me. I was almost shocked. Wasn’t he so bold when messing with me earlier? Could he really be afraid of this little ghost?
“Why are you hiding? Isn’t your Maolang supposed to be powerful?” I dragged him out.
He timidly said, “I’ve never dealt with a real ghost before! So, you’re an expert too…”
Expert my foot! I just started this line of work not long ago! This guy’s skills are considerable, but apparently his experience isn’t as rich as mine.
The talisman on the girl flared up again. She rose from the ground, her grotesque face growing fiercer, mouth wide with fangs, claws raised as she lunged forward.
“Watch out!” I raised my hand, shielding Gao Sheng and Zhang Haozi behind me, quickly reciting the ghost-warding incantation. The little ghost, having learned from earlier, twisted mid-attack and aimed straight at me. Sharp claws slashed down just above my head. I gasped and stepped back. Her claws missed me by inches, but as soon as they neared my body, the protective talisman flared to life, causing her to scream and be flung back.
The driver cowered behind the seat, trembling and silent.
I quickly handed out several talismans to the three of them. “Protect Gao Sheng and Er Ye!”
I drew a well-shaped talisman and stepped forward. The little ghost flew along the car window, landing on the roof, her ferocious face staring at me.
This creature was truly fierce. The spirits and monsters I’d encountered before were strong, but none so frenzied as she.
She took a beating from me, then flew over me, clinging to the roof as she headed toward the three behind.
This little ghost seemed to think the roof was very high, unlike a ceiling indoors. I seized the chance, chanting the exorcism incantation, quickening my steps and slapping the well talisman onto her.
“Ahhh!” A piercing, agonized scream erupted. Her body suddenly burst into flames, as if trapped in an invisible cage, clinging to the roof, surrounded by flames while screaming in torment.
Gao Sheng and Er Ye quickly retreated, positioning themselves near the back seats.
I pulled out another well talisman, eyes locked on the girl, ready to prevent her from breaking free and attacking again.
Her screams grew louder. Her bound body struggled fiercely, then suddenly broke free from the invisible bonds, flames still flickering. She darted out the window and vanished without a trace.
“Is... she gone?” Zhang Haozi asked, still shaken.
Just as I was about to reply, a tremendous crash suddenly rang out. Before I could grasp what was happening, my body was violently flung backward. Someone grabbed me mid-air, but I still slammed hard onto the ground, sliding until I hit a chair, which stopped my fall.
It happened so abruptly, without warning. My whole body ached, especially my back, which felt as if it had been slashed. The pain was unbearable!
Damn it! My old injuries weren’t even healed, and now this! What the hell is going on?!
The car had stopped. I painfully got up and saw that Zhang Haozi was less fortunate. He’d been thrown onto the engine hood near the driver’s side, his head bleeding profusely.
The front of the car was dented badly.
Er Ye and Gao Sheng fared better, crouching on the ground, clutching their chairs tightly. Er Ye had been the one to pull me up; without her, I’d have ended up like Zhang Haozi.
The car doors opened. I limped out, still aching all over. The others followed, and the driver, trembling, also got out. He had a large gash on his forehead, bleeding heavily, but fortunately, it wasn’t life-threatening.
The surroundings had returned to normal; the road wound naturally. The bus had crashed into a utility pole—no wonder it shook so violently.
The driver and Zhang Haozi pressed their hands to their foreheads, faces smeared with blood. I noticed Er Ye’s hand trembling slightly; after such a commotion, even with her strength, she wasn’t going to be fine anytime soon.
“The school clinic is closed at this hour. Let’s head straight to the hospital,” I said.
Er Ye pulled out her phone and made a call, giving brief instructions.
Soon, Su Feiyong arrived driving swiftly, as always. The driver and Zhang Haozi got into the car. Gao Sheng had no intention of getting in and limped off in the direction of the school. Er Ye motioned to follow him.
I stopped her firmly. “I’m going after him. You head to the hospital first.”
She glanced at me but said nothing and got into the car.
The car started moving. Su Feiyong rolled down the window. “If you need anything, just contact me. You know my number.”
I nodded as the car sped away.
Watching it disappear, I finally couldn’t hold back. My body slumped, wincing in pain. Damn it! Old wounds unhealed, new injuries added—this pain was killing me! Even if my back wasn’t bleeding, it was definitely swollen!
Gao Sheng limped toward the school, clearly hurt. I didn’t know why he disliked Er Ye so much, but since it concerned his father, it wasn’t for me to judge.
I caught up to him. “You’re walking so fast. Don’t you hurt? Take it easy. There’s no one else around.”
I didn’t pretend, rubbing my arm and shoulder, exhaling in pain.
He stopped. I was surprised—since when was he so obedient?
Standing still without turning around, he said in a cold voice, “Was that really a ghost? Do ghosts really exist in this world...?”
“You saw it with your own eyes. What do you think?” I replied.
“Does that mean every dead person becomes a ghost?” His voice held a strange emotion.
